Moved by the number of jellies filing past to send their wishes off, may I ask if some of our old friends will stay on?

You’ve stopped by, why don’t you stay with us? So, will you?

I’m canceling my Internet and cable to save money on October 21st. I will still have my Rodgers account but it only has a half gig of data per month so I won’t be on as much.
@talljasperman that could be both good and bad. Good if you decide to spend a bit of time outdoors walking or just relaxing in a park. Bad if you lose what gives you pleasure. Could you perhaps save money by cutting out something else?
I second Zephyra’s motion.
@ZEPHYRA I’m Saving For A New Laptop. I won’t be gone forever just until July at the latest. My phone cable Internet bill is $200 a month. The cut will save me $120 a month.
I third Zephyra’s motion.
Every time I pop in here, I can feel the strong pull to stay – and never more so than tonight with all of my old friends around.
That’s part of the problem, though…I know if I stay I’ll get sucked right back in. I just don’t have the free time for that anymore. :(
Damn tooting.
I so hope some of the old time jellies stick around. We’ve missed you
Even if people don’t stay around it is lovely to see that people that have left are still keeping in touch with each other even if it isn’t through Fluther.
At least half of my FB friends are from Fluther. I’m so glad to still be in contact with such great people!
I was going to say likely not, as it feels so large and impersonal now. But that’s inaccurate, look at the touching thread for Gail. I just don’t feel at all connected here, which is my fault.
I so wish so many of the people I saw in that thread would stay. I’m feeling stupidly nostalgic and teary-eyed at seeing so many old faces.
One can only hope.
It is overwhelming seeing everyone. I wanted to go off on ten tangents on the Gail Q and ask jellies how they are, what they have been up to, what they think about Donald Trump, Hillary, and Ben Carson. Lol. The Presidential race season is the time I really rely on Fluther for information and opinions. It’s been an incredible night. Just wow.
Fluther is bittersweet for me.
I met my best friend here, who I still torment every day… I’ve met people who I have gotten the pleasure of watching their children grow, their careers grow, the ones who moved across the world, the ones who are doing things with their lives that I never would have imagined… so many amazing people that I still follow on social media. So many good people.
But because of how happy the connections I made here made me during an otherwise shitty time in my life, it’s hard to think about coming back without getting super nostalgic for what feels like the perfect time period in my Internet life. Which is totally a real thing, by the way.
I don’t really want new memories of this place. I want to remember Fluther in what I consider its golden day… The constant chat room, the main men still being heavily involved, the stupid inside jokes, the fights, the relationship drama, the weddings, the 8 hour long Skype calls with way too many people, everything. Even a particular member, who I don’t think steps foot here anymore either, is part of such a fond memory. I’d like to preserve the happy thoughts, and not try to move on with what seems like an entirely new userbase.
I do think of Fluther often, and fondly. I just don’t see myself coming back outside of the rare check-ins.
@rangerr Woah. I can’t believe that all happened. I’m glad for you.
Is the chat room still available? I’m on my phone and I don’t see it anywhere.
I may pop in from time to time. I have missed having an internet-home. Facebook is incredibly depressing, and other Q&A sites are so impersonal…
Also, I’ve lost all desire to argue about stuff… so that shouldn’t happen anymore.
I love seeing so many of you again and I truly wish it was for a celebration and not a jelly in distress.
First off- HUGE kudos to the current mods- total spam ninjas. It is a big job. Spammers never sleep. The archives look fantastic and pretty much spam-free. You guys are really putting in hours!
However, in regards to answering this question, I tried hanging out tonight to see if I could chill and participate but I don’t think I can. Like Auggie I have two jobs and have four kids so time is a factor. But also it is incredibly hard for me to sit on the sidelines and be a normal participant. Instead of enjoying discussions tonight I found myself seeking obsessing on spam that I had flagged. (not that there was much of it to flag thanks to current mod staff)
I might hang around for the next couple days to see who else pops in. I am very sad about Gail and part of me really hopes she will post. After that I will come if just summoned by Auggie or another Jelly for a (hopefully good) support thread.
Perhaps those of you who have managed to escape the siren song of Askville could be persuaded (tricked) to check in on a particular day annualy or quarterly determined in advance. It would be a roll call of sorts, and a needed uplift to we, the damned so callously “left behind”. The extraordinary ability of Gailcalled to “summon the dead” convinces me that she should be shamelessly exploited and the day of reporting named in her honor. It would be Gailcalled day.
Gail, the fact that you reached out to others in a very personal way during your lifetime is a tribute to your personality. This outpouring of love and support on Fluther hopefully brings a sense of relief and contentment. You were able to positively touch so many lives of those that never met you in person, and it is worthy of recognition.
As long as Fluther survives, the imprint you have made upon our lives will live as long as we do, and maybe even longer than that.
I second Auggie’s post. But in honor of Gail, I’ll stick around for a little while.
I second @stanleybmanly‘s suggestion. Gailcalled day, our first Fluther holiday. Happy Gailday!
@Seek That would be quite a feat, and very disappointing to find YOU avoiding an argument (debate). Thankfully, I don’t believe for a minute that you will tolerate without comment some of the stuff that flies through here!
How about certain days chosen as gathering times for oldies? Perhaps three days a month, when it can be agreed the old timers can likely be expected to appear. Truly unusual questions concocted by regulars who like to think those things up could be held over for those dates to appear. Jellies could hope for a chat room group, etc. because those dates are prearranged. That way we don’t have jellies drop in, feel bored, and leave without a trace. Two weekdays, maybe, and a sunday, so whatever the schedules, a few could show up, for a little while.
It might not be a perfect scenario, but it could be nostalgic, and without a doubt, many jellies are missed who could jump back in from time to time.
I wonder whatever happened to that hipster monkey.
@jackofhearts I miss @eponymoushipster!
I don’t know how many times that I’ve popped in here in the last few days!
It’s so good to see so many old faces!
@Dog, I had a few. haha! Jmah, mama cakes, and Jude!
^we joined on the same day in Dec. 2008. I remember this. :)
Wish a special person from Hawaii would stop by.
@ZEPHYRA He and I exchanged messages regarding Gail. He was already in the loop and sent her an e-mail.
Hey there @JackofHearts ,Jmah, mama cakes, and Jude…you always had the coolest shit in your apartment!
I was wondering about Sueannetremendous and PnL, unless they’re here under other names.
@Pied_Pfeffer hope he is well and enjoying his theatre activities. He too is one of those special, cultured and discreet souls whose presence is missed.
Hi there. I was pulled back for Gail. :) Who would I talk to about reactivating my old account? I’m not even sure if can be done now.
@StillWorksForChocolate Any mod should be able to reactivate your old account. I’m not one anymore, or I’d help you. :)
Who are the active mods, currently? I saw PhiNotPi is still on as a mod, but hasn’t checked in in a long time.
I’m not sure who all of them are, but I know thorninmud is one. There’s a ‘contact the mods’ button at the top right of the home page now, which is handy!
So, Longgone, Thorninmud, and SavoirFaire. The other three haven’t logged in since August.
Eek, that’s a lot of work for just 3 active mods.
Okay, I’m officially back. For now, anyway. If I blow anything up or y’all find a dead body under my profile, blame Seek for bringing me back. ;)
^YAY Looking forward to all the evil cat pics you come up with.
@WillWorkForChocolate If one of us discovers a dead body, we’ll claim it was in the frizzer and blame it on Janets.
This is the time to come back. American Presidential race gearing up! I like coming here for politics, and value the opinions and fact finding of so many of the jellies who haven’t been here in so long.
Well, I’ve managed to stay for a week, which is more than I’d expected to do. It’s been very nice to be welcomed back. I’m still feeling cautious, but I’m here for at least a little while.
^^^Me three. Let us now strive, to drastically reduce, Fluther’s tendency to figuratively defenestrate those who endeavor to maintain civil discourse! ;-)
Me four. Now I need to participate more.
Me five. Yay, coming home.
Any of you keep in touch with people like – BOOKISH
POISONEDANTIDOTE
BLUEFREEDOM
SIMONE DE BEUVOIRE AND SO MANY MORE.
Hope everyone is well.
@ucme why, did ya ever go?
@ZEPHYRA I can get in touch with Simone and possibly Blue.
I haven’t heard from bookish since he moved to France.
Ten. I’m happy for all the Jellies that are back and are staying.
Even an occasional, little bit of Auggie is better than no Auggie at all.
Warm wishes to all of the old members (and new). I hope your lives are filled with joy and meaning (whatever is meaningful to you that is).
