What kind of oil do you recommend for use in a deep fryer?

Asked by tedibear (19399points) October 9th, 2015 from iPhone

We bought a deep fryer and are trying to determine the best oil to put in it. My thought is either canola or peanut oil. Will peanut oil give a peanut flavor to the food?

Many thanks for your advice.

If you are frying at the right temp, the oil is hot enough where it won’t permeate the food being fried. Both oils will work well but I am reading peanut oil is preferred by frying aficionados.

I’ve had turkeys and french fries deep fried in peanut oil – no peanut taste.

Peanut. No flavor, high smoke and flash point. Safest to use.

Grape seed oil is good for high temp. cooking.

Although I’d prefer to hear that you bought a steamer and want to know what liquid we recommend (lemon juice is a good go-to, and yes, it imparts flavor), I’d say go with peanut oil in the fryer. Universally used, no taste, and relatively inexpensive.

If we want fried foods, we eat them when we eat out. I hate the spell in the house and it seemed like every time I did want to deep fry, the oil had gone strong.

+1 for peanut oil, unless someone is intolerant. Then Canola is the more economical of the alternatives.
