How about a Fluther book club?

Asked by Stinley (11525points) October 9th, 2015

Who would like to join a Fluther book club? We would choose a book, give ourselves a month to read it, then revive the question by having a discussion on the book. I will recommend the first book: All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Are you in?

That’s a nice idea. I’ll see if there’s any book I can get and read.

I’ve read that and I’m in. But I might not participate every month because there are often books I have to read for teaching and other groups and other books I want to read.

I’m in a book group and I barely have time to read the book, and often don’t finish it. I will participate in the Fluther book group when I can, but my local book group will tell you don’t count on me finishing the book…...

Non-fiction only. I don’t mean to disparage fiction, but there is too much that I want to learn and not enough time to include fiction.

@LostInParadise Well, you will have to set up your own book club because I don’t really do non-fiction!

I have on occasion been so intrigued by an event described in a fiction book that I have researched it afterwards – recently I read a book which had a wonderful section about the Bauhaus and I was inspired to read more about this movement. I’ve only extended my research to Wikipedia so far but I know my sister has a book on it that I must borrow :-)

I was just thinking about this the other day, so I’m in. Not sure if I’ll be able to participate every single time, but I’m definitely interested.

Include me in though I might not read every book..

I’d love to do it but I’m so busy with school right now and the books I have to read for my English class! But I should be done by December so I can start then if this is still going!

I may be interested in this. I like the idea of reading that particular book too; a few of my friends have read it and they liked it.

I participated in an online book club on another site, but it seemed like by the end I was the only one still participating. So that will show you that I can commit, but I also haven’t had a very encouraging experience with this.

How long are the books? I’m not a good reader but I’d love to follow along if I can.

I’m down for a book club, but I’ll skip this one and meet you for the next book. WWII history hits a few triggers for me, and I’m not in a good mental place to court those emotions.

Yes, please. I would enjoy this. If I may, Stinley.
Thank you for looking up book info, yankeetooter!

@msh you just have to read the book. We will have a revival of the thread in a month when I can ask what folks thought of it. The book club I go to we just have a bit of a chat. Others prepare questions and discussion points. We can see how it goes

Great! Thank you. I’ll get the book and get started…
See- er- talk to you then.

I’m in. I am in another book club but…can always use another.

So who has finished the book? I think it’s a wonderful story. I love the way it weaves back and forth between Marie Laure and Werner, bringing them tantalisingly closer and closer. I loved the essential goodness of both of them and how they were victims of their circumstances.
