What do you do on Halloween?

Asked by jca (36062points) October 12th, 2015

Do you go trick or treating with your child or friends’ children?

Do you stay home and give out candy?

Do you shut the lights off and not do anything?

Something else?

Do you like Halloween or dislike?

I buy cheap chocolate bars and work on getting diabetes.

Nothing. We don’t celebrate it here. It seems like a fun holiday. Not sure if I’d like us to celebrate it or not though. Great for kids but beyond that, I can’t see the point.

My wife and I take turns going out with the kids and staying home to give candy out. Our neighborhood is very popular for trick-or-treating, so we need to be prepared with plenty of candy. Lots of people from a nearby city travel to our neighborhood with their young kids.

I like halloween, but as my kids get older, the amount of candy they get is absurd.

I usually go out with my sister and best friend to take my nieces trick-or-treating. I love seeing all of the kids in their costumes and all of the decorations. I also go out of my way to decorate the house and pass out candy to kids. Halloween is my favorite holiday. I also feel like communities feel more like communities during this holiday – even compared to Christmas. It’s fun, magical and spooky.

The three of us (my little one, my husband, and myself) go trick-or-treating. Ian and I always wear matching costumes. Sometimes hubby joins us. This year we’re going as Minecraft mobs (NPC characters from the computer game). He’ll be a Villager, and I’ll be a Skeleton. Hubby hasn’t decided whether he’ll join us or just be a zombie (again). Last year E and I were Pirates. Year before we did a group Mario Bros. costume. Before that, Conan the Barbarian, and before that, Lord of the Rings.

I love Halloween, and any excuse to wear a costume. I wish more people did fancy dress parties around here.

I trick-or-treat haha. It’s free candy!

In the eight years I’ve lived in my current house, I’ve given out candy. I love seeing the very little ones in their costumes, their parents standing on the sidewalk proudly looking on. Not sure I’m up to it this year,

I stay home and give-out candy. I put a row of Halloween lights along the path to my front door, so the kids will know where to go and knock.

I never have anything chocolate, though. It seems as if almost everyone gives chocolate candy. Not everybody likes chocolate (I don’t), and some children are allergic. So, I buy Twizzlers, or bags of pretzels, or packs of sugar cookies, or anything non-chocolate.

We go to my brother and SIL’s house and go trick or treating with my nephew. So both sets of grandparents, SIL’s sister and her grown son and wife and their boy who is the same age as my nephew. Me, my mom and brother and brother’s grown nephew take the kids around trick or treating while the rest of the adults take turns giving out candy. We usually have pizza before the kids go out. They get thousands of kids in their small neighborhood. I’m pretty sure they bus kids in from other neighborhoods, because they don’t have thousands of kids at the elementary school. Lots of great costumes. At least 2 houses do a haunted garage. It’s lots of fun, but exhausting. I always say hello to any dogs I meet.

I’m not sure what I’m doing this year since I don’t know anyone at my alma mater anymore, but the past four years for me have consisted of dressing as either a Roman legionnaire or Teddy Roosevelt and drinking 40s.

For about 10 years we had kids from the daycare center come in to our office building. But they closed up. Last year I just from office to office in the building with candy. Some peeps loved it, the probation peeps freaked out.

For they past 8 years, I’ve been trick or treating with my daughter. We usually go in my parents’ neighborhood. I live in a great neighborhood for trick or treating, but I like to let my parents enjoy seeing her with her costume on and participating with us.

Hand out candy to little ghouls and goblins (this year it will probably be Elsa and Ironman). I start with the hard candy and work my way through the smarties and skittles, saving the chocolate ones for last. That way, if there is any left over (or surreptitiously put aside) then it is what I like.

Except candy corn. I will give that away quickly because if I don’t no one but me gets any.

I’ve had to ooo and aaahhh a great deal through life. And that includes when viewing fireworks.
I buy my fav candy. Turn out the lights and watch the scary paranormal shows.
When I run outta candy, I simply walk outside, scare the living daylights out of an older kid with a pillowcase-full, grab it, and return to the tv scare-fest.
I can’t wait!

Nothing in particular although this year my friend is celebrating her 30th birthday on 31st with a fancy dress party so I’m going to that (as a cowgirl!)

Nothing.
I have lived in a rural setting for 24 years now, and we do not get trick or treaters, too much distance between homes, likes acres and acres.
When my daughter was young we would take her to my ex SIL’s neighborhood for trick or treating and family festivities and our local Main St. put on a candy walk among the shop keepers for the local kids a few days before Halloween. That was always fun too.

Now it’s just another quiet night in the hills.
I did dress up Marwyn my goose as a chicken last year…see his photo in my avatar. lol
Things country people do for amusement.
He also used to go trick or treating with us years ago and he had a blue silk cape with red letters that said ” SG” for super goose.

He was hit of the neighborhood and got bread and water at every house.
