What is the weekly limit to order beef and broccoli?

Asked by talljasperman (21919points) October 13th, 2015

For $10 I can get two meals out of it. The restaurant is right next door to where I live and I think it is the least bad thing that I am eating (KFC , pizza ect). I like the food and I plan to order out once or twice a week. I also am buying fruit and vegetable trays for $10 each from a grocery store two blocks away. I’m searching for a happy simple routine.

Pretty sure you should ask Seek .

I know your diet is shit and nearly everything you eat is prepared. Given that, if it’s 2 meals for $10 and has fresh broccoli in it, eat as much as you like without burning yourself out on it. Fruit and veggie trays are good, so I won’t lecture you about the expense.

Sounds like you’re venturing in the right direction. Sample some chicken dishes, too, and see if you can’t find one you like.

Deep fat fried chicken to beef and broccoli is move in the right direction.

Is it with rice?

I’d limit to once a week if you get two meals out of it. Although it’s a good source of protein and at least a partial serving of your daily vegetables, you’re probably looking at a lot of sodium. That may or may not be a big deal depending on your personal tolerance, but it’s generally recommended not to go overboard with the salt. At worst, is there another meat/vegetable dish that you could also order if you were to do it more than once a week? A bit of variety would be beneficial and no more difficult than ordering beef & broccoli.

If you want cheap and easy meals and you don’t get bored with repetition, classic peanut butter sandwiches are pretty decent.

Please please please stop buying those veggie trays. They are so overpriced for what they are. Three apples, two stalks of celery and three carrots with a squirt of Ranch dressing for $10. Ridiculous. Baby carrots go on sale all the time. Grab them when they’re $0.99 a pound. You don’t even have to peel them.

Beef and Broccoli is fine occasionally, but remember that prepared Chinese food is oh, so very high in sodium, so go easy on it.

@Tropical_Willie Yes it comes with rice.

I agree with @Seek
“Prepared” raw veggies and fruit, only make bank on laziness and/or loneliness.
“But I can’t or don’t want to eat an entire fresh pineapple!” I get that, and here’s a tip: Put those leftover chunks of fruit into a mason jar and cover with spiced rum or vodka. Seal it and refrigerate. Add to drinks, salsa, recipes… hell, just eat it out of the jar!

Carrots, celery, asparagus, green beans, jalepenos, onions… Make a simple pickle solution. Vinegar, water, salt, whatever spices. Pack ‘em in jars and submerge in boiling water. People think canning is an art. It isn’t. It’s dead-easy and you get to say “I did this”.

@Seek has a good point. You can buy bags of baby carrots for about 2 bucks each, buy some celery (even if you buy celery hearts without the greens attached), buy a thing of dip for about 2 or 3 bucks, so for 6 bucks instead of 10, you’re getting more for less.

It’s apple season- buy a bag of apples for a few bucks. Apples are great and they’re roughage, too.

For your broccoli, just buy broccoli, chops the stalks off and boil it. Or buy frozen broccoli and boil that – takes about 2 minutes. If you want chicken, get the already cooked roasted chicken from the supermarket. I know some will say that type of chicken is bad for you, but it’s better than Chinese beef and broccoli, which is full of salt, oil and sugar.

Have you tried the dried fruit? Keeps well, and a lot of it is like eating candy.

You know about these, right? What you save on pre-cut apples you can spend on caramel dip, right?
;-)

talljasperman's avatar

@ibstubro I accedently bought two containers of caramel dip to use. Thanks I will buy some apples.

@talljasperman Your “sweet tooth” is showing. Cut back on caramel increase apples.

If you want a taste of fresh without buying the whole kit and caboodle- go to the store’s salad bar and pick and choose. You will eat and not feel as guilty if the huge amounts spoil if you had to buy the whole department out for a salad.
Ppppsssstttt- calcium????
Remember, if you are eating and there is a frown on your face or all you taste is seasoning- walk on the wild side and get something else for a bit.
Good luck~
