No, the Constitution is quite clear on the fact that two is the limit.
Failures – Too numerous to list
Successes – Succeeded in nearly doubling the National Debt.
He did his two terms. There’s no third term for him no matter what.
1. You only get two anyway, so why bother asking?
2. Hell no, he’s caused enough trouble.
He didn’t deserve the first two. Time to go, he’s done enough damage.
Deserves is an interesting way of thinking about it. I fear the White House is headed toward the dilemma in the Congress- the smart and capable people will prove their capability by refusing to touch it with a stick.
You know that they amended the Constitution after Roosevelt (Franklin) died. It’s lucky thing for Republicans that they did. Otherwise he’d STILL be president!
I think he deserves to get away from it all and to have a long and happy retirement.
I think the Congress should have term limits as well. But we know that’s never going to happen, because such a measure would have to pass through Congress first, and they’re never going to pass anything that would take away from themselves.
Honestly tho, no. Having the same person running a country for too long is no good for the country.
Nope. The twenty-second amendment is there for a valid reason, and I don’t care who is POTUS, it’s “Eight and out” unless you’re a VP who ascended to the Oval Office more than halfway through your predecessor’s term. Party affiliation has nothing to do with it, only simple Constitutional Law. And I can’t think of a single president who has been so awesome that they actually deserved more than 2.4999 terms.
@Cruiser You just told us why you can never vote Republican then, and bought a bit of hyperbolic dogma in the process. Uno, dos, tres. In fact, that last one is outright countered
@stanleybmanly Looking at how things have been since 1980, I think that a dead guy in office would be an improvement. Can we get a few over in Congress as well? And I agree that POTUS is rapidly becoming the same as Speaker of the House; a job no intelligent person would want, and no sane person can get.
@jerv Bush ran up the debt because of weapons of mass destruction. Obama closed the book on those wars and despite not having the expense of war still managed to add more debt than the 3 previous Presidents. THAT is why I could never vote Democrat especially with Hill and Bern leading the field who would make Obama look miserly! Yikes!
Because clearly it’s as simple as that. It’s not like that are numerous factors at play when it comes to the debt.
@Cruiser Thank you for the laugh. So, are you voting for a third-party candidate, or just staying home on election night?
@jerv I will do the opposite what I expect you to do…vote for the candidate who is best suited to solve the problems left behind by Obama no matter what party affiliation.
@Cruiser Ah, “None of the above”. Gotcha.
Sure, there are a few that align with your positions that may make competent Secretaries, advisors, or the like, but there are few in that field from either side that could be a good full-on POTUS, and there is zero overlap between the two lists.
As an aside, I think that this dog-and-pony show is just proof that the two-party system is flawed. If the Libertarians would tone it down a little, maybe the fiscally conservative voters who are not in favor of us turning into a Christianized copy of Iran would actually have someone to vote for!
