Is it normal to be congested from a cold for a week?

So, you know me, I’m a bit of a hypocondriac.
I’m normally congested for 3 days tops and now it’s been a week, I can’t smell, can’t taste and it’s really getting me down.
I can’t breath out of my nose.
The Dr gave me steroids but an infant dose as I said I wouldn’t take an adult dose and I really don’t think that’s done anything.
I’m going back to the Dr today as I can’t do this anymore.
I feel claustrophobic and now i’m getting a headache.
Anyone else had congestion this long and what did you do?
I’m hoping they will give me antibiotics as I can’t actually function – my house is a mess and I’m awful to be around!
Help….
