What is the point, or purpose, of these kinds of chain mail posts?
This:
Nothing worse than watching your loved ones die
Trying to look good, but after chemo and radiation… you know the person physically changed and they’re in shock!! I know many of you do not give a damn of this message because of course, the cancer has not touched you. You do not know what it’s like to have fought the fight or had a loved one who leads a battle against cancer. For all the men and women I know, I ask you a small favour and only some of you will do… If you know someone who has led a battle against cancer, still struggling or who passed, please add this to your status for one hour as a mark of respect and remembrance…
Message copy and paste to support victims and families affected by cancer !!!
Hold your finger on the message in order to copy and paste on your page. If you choose to do so. Pls no tagging or sharing.

Why no tagging or sharing? What is with the instructions to copy and paste?
Awareness? Gleaning information or just seeing if people could be bothered or not. I must admit that I DO read and think about the issues but I do not carry out the instruction.
That makes no sense whatsoever.
It’s from a person who really wants the information to travel, but doesn’t want to be personally identified. That’s my guess. Best intentions, and all that.
That was kind of my thought too, @Seek.
I don’t share stuff like that, on FB or on email. It could be a virus.
I had a laptop a few years ago and it got screwed up with viruses. When I took it for repair, the guy told me be careful what you share on FB, what games you play (I play no games) and what you click on, on FB and elsewhere, because that’s how you get viruses. To me, anything that shows a photo of someone with a big story about how they need likes or they need this to be shared, or any other type of bullshit where they’re asking you to like or share, no way Jose. I keep scrolling down.
I get enraged when people send me this type of crap. If it’s just a random post I see, I scroll past. It’s from dumbasses that don’t know it’s annoying.
I had the same reaction initially, but after thinking about it, the person responsible for the composition of the thing might just be grief stricken. The thing reads like an angry outpouring of grief. I certainly wouldn’t pass it on, but I would cut the author some slack.
I would think that too, @stanleybmanly, except for the explicit instructions at the end, Hold your finger on the message in order to copy and paste on your page. If you choose to do so. Pls no tagging or sharing.” That makes me a little suspicious. I can’t think of any reason you can’t share or tag, unless, as @jca said, it could be a virus.
You’re not getting a virus by copy/pasting a Facebook status. You’re just not.
Then it’s just a weird stipulation.
