DS9. Most richly textured.
TNG with VOY a close second. Then TOS, then DS9.
ENT never happened
TNG tops the list for me followed by acluse tie for second place between BAB 5 and DS 9 (they really did have some interesting similarities).
Yes, I know you didn’t put BAB 5 in your Q but it was such a great series (in totality) and too often gets short shrift.
I mean, they had Harlan Ellison as a creative consultant. And according to interviews I’ve read he was quite an active consultant.
And while TNG gets props for Stephen Hawking in a brief guest cameo, BAB 5 had a whole episode built around Penn and Teller as (something) and Zooty. Zoot, Zoot, Zoot.
For anyone who has never partaken of BAB 5, I suggest immediate binge watching. It had a spotty broadcast history but now the whole series is available.
It was Rebo and Zooty (for P&T).
It must be a generational thing. I’m a TOS guy all the way.
Not necessarily, @Rarebear, I was there for the first episode aired of TOS.
You need to see TOS first to get the basis for everything else. It’s great too! I personally like TNG the best, with VOY coming in a close second. No interest at all in DS9. Couldn’t get into ENT, it wasn’t enough like the original, despite loving the lead.
I also have watched all of TOS right from the get go, but for me it’s kind of “been there done that” with little desire to rewatch any of them.
But for the ones I mentioned, I find myself rewatching favorite episodes if I randomly come across them in the listings guide (similar to if I encounter any stray episodes of Firefly. )
It’s kind of like revisiting a favorite city or travel destination. TOS laid the basic framework and presented some great storylines but the subsequent series built a richer more complex framework for their “worlds” (for lack of a better term.) they were worlds I enjoyed spending time in.
I am barely old enough to remember the original episodes. I became a fan when it went into syndication in th early ‘70s
Well, that’s what I’m referring to also. The repeats of TOS in the 70s. But I watched them all in order right from the first one.
I’m a die-hard TNG fan. It was out when I was a little kid. I remember one episode of Reading Rainbow where LeVar Burton walked through the bridge of the Enterprise. It was MAGIC.
TNG is my personal favorite; Sir Patrick, especially.
I literally grew up watching TNG on my daddy’s lap; the show started airing when I was a toddler. In my early teens I got back into it through the novels, then watched the Next Gen movies, then went back and watched all of TOS, and then all of Next Gen and made my way through DS9 as I could find them at the library. I just recently Netflixed Voyager, and saw enough of Enterprise to know I’m not interested.
The new films are nice action movies. They are not Star Trek.
^ I won’t lie, as a lifelong Trekkie, I still maintain that the reboot of BSG is the single best written Sci-Fi series ever, even when you count in the end.
@Seek I completely agree. I do enjoy some of the others (grew up watching them because of my dad), but nothing compares.
TNG, then TOS, though both had their silly moments. I really tried to like the others, but couldn’t, though I would surrender a large portion of my retirement savings for one week with 7 of 9.
I was all about TNG until I watched DS9. DS9 is at the top of its league, I think.
BSG was great until the last half of the last season. The setup was never paid off, and then they went all deus ex machina on us. So, so disappointing.
