Wound started to bleed during exercise?
I don’t know if this is of concern or not, so I thought I’d ask here before going to see a professional.
I cut my shin yesterday while shaving and it was pretty bad. It doesn’t look deep at all but it bled a lot. I put a bunch of band aids on it and about 15 minutes later it stopped.
Well today I went for my usual run and when I sat down to rest, I noticed blood coming through the band aids and blood running down my leg. I didn’t bump the cut or anything so I’m not sure why it’s bleeding.
Again it doesn’t look deep so I doubt I’d need stitches. Does a raise in blood pressure just cause some scrapes to bleed again? Because now that I’m resting the bleeding has stopped. Probably a stupid question but I’d just like to know what’s going on:)

Your skin flexed enough while running to break the clotted blood that kept it from bleeding anymore.
Since you cut it shaving, if it bleeds again, use a styptic, then close it with some steri-strips so that it won’t flex open again.
My jobs and hobbies tend to earn me plenty of cuts and scrapes. Sometimes those wounds get reopened just by me doing my thing.
Skin tends to move around over muscles and muscles change shape as you flex. Move your foot around and watch how your calf muscles totally change the shape of your lower leg. Skin can change shape to match pretty easily, but scabs cannot. That difference in flexibility can easily be enough to rip the scab right off the skin and allow some blood loss.
Shin cuts are hard to heal also.
@travelbabe24 ~ You’ve got an open wound. Fifteen minutes to stop? That’s a long time. Several band aids? Try gauze and bandage tape.
Please consider going to your GP or an alternative care place.
Bacteria in open wounds is not a light situation. Try hydrogen peroxide to get a very basic cleaning.
You’re right, it’s too late for stitches. Yet it’s still serious enough that it opened up again.
Get that cleaned out and seriously cared for, Sweetie.
Take care~
Hydrocolloid dressings are perfect for this type of injury.
You put one on and it absorbs the liquids from your wound to form a cushion. Waterproof, you leave them on until you’re healed. The cushion will be a small, lighter-colored bump and when it’s gone, you remove the bandage and you’re like new again!
The last ones I bought, I bought at a pharmacy and were store brand. Just slightly more expensive. Cheaper, in the long run, as you only need one per wound.
@msh There are certain places where even the most minor scratch takes a while to stop bleeding. That seems to be especially true for wounds that slice instead of rip; razor wounds really don’t like to stay closed.
@ibstubro
Gave you the best solution.
But just make certain to clean the wound thoroughly before sealing it up with this type of dressing. The last thing you need is a bunch of bacteria trapped there.
Keep a close watch on it and head for the ER at the first sign of creeping redness, warm to the touch or increased pain
You want to avoid possible sepsis (that’s really serious) if an infection develops. .
Yes, and you have to wait until the bleeding has stopped, or nearly so, before applying the Hydrocolloid dressing.
If you can find one with silver in it, all the better IMO. Natural antibacterial.
