Goodbye Fred Thompson, actor and politician. He was a better actor than he ever was a politician.
But he had a recognizable voice and way of talking, and I always liked him in The Hunt for Red October.
And he wasn’t a real bad guy – he was on the Watergate Committee and did a commendable job.
It’s when he got into electoral politics that he got in over his head.
Anyway, gone today: link

That distinctive face and voice—his was one of those presences that to me was pleasant and seemed eternal. To whatever degree he succeeded as a politician and actor, I admire him for having the drive and energy to tackle those two tough professions.
He also did Yeoman’s work on Law and Order. Didn’t care for his conservative views, but he was from what I could see, a standup individual. Here’s TO you Thompson. Rest in peace.
“Mr. Thompson compiled a solidly conservative voting record in the Senate, though aides said he showed little enthusiasm for divisive battles over abortion and other issues that motivated the religious right.”
To quote a late great Mr. Berra, “It’s like déjà vu all over again.”
Immensely enjoyable actor.
Too good to be true politician.
He was what he seemed to be. He dropped out of the presidential race early, but I did admire his durability and honesty.

Farewell, Sir.
I wonder if he regretted doing those reverse mortgage ads.
