What would you put on your canvas at this moment? (3)

Asked by Jeruba (56061points) November 9th, 2015

This is my second time of waking up this question originally posted by @Dog in 2009. Here’s her original, which asks:

Suppose you’re an artist. If you were going to create a painting in your present mood, what would you paint? What colors would you use?

How would you put your present state of mind into a picture?

Here’s a revisiting in 2010.

What would you say now?

A light house peeking through the fog of an angry ocean being viewed from the ocean towards the shoreline. The jagged rocks looking even more treacherous as the sea crashes into them. And looking at the lone light in the light house, a slight shadow insinuating that there is a man, perhaps alone, perhaps not.

The wife and myself have once again volunteered to paint 8 X 8 inch paintings for an event in February for the local arts council.

Think we are going to do a local lake views. Both will be different.

Last year it was two different lighthouses on the east coast of the US.

The question is about how you would represent your current emotional state or mood in a painting.

I would paint abstractly on a white background cutting it with lines of orange, red, blue, and green. It would not represent anything other than my feelings which are energized and directed at the moment. I am currently working on a few projects, and I have goals firmly in mind.

The lines would be unformed. they would be streaks of color. They would probably cross each other and touch in other ways, too. Off the top of my head, green might be dominant in some way. I’m feeling fertile, thus green. Blue seems important to demonstrate my goal-oriented mind. The orange and red are my fire and energy. They would be contained since I’m channeling my energy, at the moment.

I would call the painting “Reaching.” I like using active verbs that imply physical actions. Also, I feel like I’m reaching toward fulfilling ideas I’ve long held.

Right at this moment, I think it would be an abstract painting. Like a sort of fragmented starburst. The colours would be greys, blacks, but also reds, yellows and high energy colours. I feel both very focused on certain parts of my life at the moment, but within that focus, my work is very fragmented. It demands high energy, but at times I feel tired and burned out. So I’d want this fragmented starburst to reflect these varying moods.

If you asked this at the weekend, my mood would be very different.

It would be a big swack of bacon.

I think I painted it last week. A vibrant painting of a forest in full Fall foliage – reds and oranges and yellows – behind some fallow fields. As good a representation of the contentment I am feeling with my life right now and the gratitude with which I appreciate what’s available to me.

Flesh tones. In various colors of flesh. Nudes.

I’m looking forward to a doctor visit at some point in the next year or two, and one of the inevitable questions will be (at my age, I suppose), “How’s your sex life?”

And I’ll answer, honestly, “It’s pretty good. I have sex fairly regularly. I think it might be more enjoyable with a partner, however.”

If I answered this question in its past incarnations I may have given the same response, or one similar to it. If I gave a different answer, then I probably lied.

I’ve been thinking about painting this. It’s a picture of my outrigger canoe team competing at “Rooster Rock” Oregon 6–27-15. We were a pretty good team in the “kupuna” category (old guys over 60). We were undefeated. I’m in seat 5.

Amazing question!

The North Atlantic at predawn in winter, painted in loose brush strokes.

I would do abstract strokes with a 1” brush (or slightly bigger) with thick autumn colors. It would end up almost like an abstract checkerboard, but not so clearly defined and be very textural.

Gold, brown, orange, scarlet, flecks of green, maybe eggplant.

Vibrant bursts of colour, overlapping and jostling for attention. A painting you can’t help but look at, but one which may hurt your eyes.

I feel like my life is too full right now. It’s full of great friends, learning opportunities, and new ideas, luckily, but I’ve been feeling overly-stimulated lately.

@janbb I absolutely love that painting. I spent quite a while staring at it, over on FB.

Painting my emotions is something I do fairly often. I’m kind of in an extended stress situation, so instead of my 15 minute sloppy paintings, I’m crocheting.

A lot.

The goal is a king size blanket. And it’s all rainbows. Because fuck depression in its grey, boring face.

Being a painter, this should be easy for me. But I haven’t painted anything in three months and that fact seriously troubles me. Life has gotten in the way. I’ve been so blank that I wouldn’t know what to do if I had a canvas, paints, and brushes right here in front of me :-/
