What website allows one to create a moderated community for discussion?
I am thinking about creating a discussion area to discuss US politics where I would be the moderator. The main things the rules would forbid are bad language and personal attacks. I would probably ban users who break the rules.
I want moderation because I want to see more fruitful discussions and some of the current political sites attract people who find it very hard to discuss things calmly.
I am interested in knowing if this option (the ability to create a discussion area) is available on an existing site, either for free or for a small cost. The only site I have found so far is reddit.com where individuals can create their own communities (known as subreddits).

Good luck (sincerely), and keep us posted.
Be aware that a moderator has an extraordinarily responsible (and difficult) job. You cannot be even remotely subjective, or you lose all credibility.
Yes, be darn sure you can keep your own politics out of the moderation. It’s almost an impossible job to do considering what you are describing.
You can set up forum software fairly easily, most web hosts have at least one that will install automatically for you to get things started.
There are dozens, with different features. Wikipedia actually has a decent starting point.
I believe Yahoo Groups you can do that.
Why not just discuss politics here? It’s a moderated site that doesn’t allow personal attacks or bad writing (although we are free to cuss).
Check here for a discussion of how to create an online bulletin board, either on your own or through a third party.
@augustlan, I love Fluther for what it is, but for a topic oriented site, I think bulletin boards work better. They are organized by topic and allow you to start a new discussion thread inside a parent thread.

As long as you are stealthy enough to not do it blatantly you can ~~~
