When we talk about a number of refugees that we will allow to come, is each allowed extra family members, in addition?

Asked by jca (36062points) November 15th, 2015

A friend wrote something on FB about 100,000 refugees coming to the US. I responded that I didn’t think the number was that high. She wrote that each refugee is allowed 8 additional family members.

Is that true? It makes no sense but then again, anything “governmental” doesn’t usually make sense, anyway.

I doubt it, those people would have to classify and pass as refugees as well.

According to this article in the New York Times, the number of Syrian refugees is actually 10,000.

The 100K figure is reflected in a sidebar of the same article, and reflects all refugees coming to the US: “Officials have said that the U.S. may accept an additional 30,000 refugees from across the world next year, from the current figure of 70,000.”

If we fight hatred and violence with hatred and violence we will end up having a world full of hatred and violence.

If we combat hatred and violence with understanding and kindness…I think it makes for a better world.
