Stores for plus size?
I’m having a bit of a problem when it comes to shopping more formal, but still chic.
I’m size 26, 2X/3X and everything I find is totally outdated in a sense that my grandmother wouldn’t wear it. And I know of Torrid, Catherine’s and SWAK, but those just aren’t as formal as I need.
Specifically I’m looking for a formal gown/dress for an event one could compare to prom.
Any ideas?

Did you try department stores like Dillard’s?
@JLeslie Dillard’s would be a great place, except I don’t have 500 dollars to spend on one dress.
I should have mentioned a price savvy place as well.
but thank you!
I’m not very knowledgeable, but Amazon has many plus size dresses. I know some drag queens who buy from there.
Did you google David’s Bridal?
@jca That sounds like a great idea.
Eshakti is wonderful and they go up to a women’s 36. The base price for their dresses is expensive, but it’s worthwhile to sign up for their e-mail list. They have frequent sales and discounts that are combinable. Between both of those, I’ve gotten most of my work wardrobe from there for around $50 per dress.
The dresses themselves are classy and stylish. My biggest gripe with plus-sized clothes in most stores are they’re made out of flimsy, crappy material and are not attractive. The quality and detail on these are wonderful- the material is sturdy and all the dresses are lined and have pockets and cute little details you wouldn’t think of. Highly recommend.
Deb sells cheap plus size dresses. Quality isn’t great, but you can only afford what you can afford. :)
Actually, I just glanced at Deb’s selection, and they don’t have any long formal gowns. The problem is that it’s not prom season…they have them at that time. JC Penney seems to have a few.
@jca David’s Bridal was an option until I found out most of their selection ends at size 24. Major Bummer.
@augustlan Same with JC Penney’s.
@Haleth This one is really neat, I found a couple I really like!
Thank you everyone for ideas! Very helpful!
