What if the new Star Wars movie sucks?
The original films from the 70’s and early 80’s have got some serious staying power and I still enjoy watching them. The three prequels not so much…actually not at all. So.. 30 some odd years later we get another shot at it. Everyone who is a fan has got to be thinking: “what if it sucks again?” How are you going to react? I can’t help but think it’s going to be like Indiana Jones ad the crystal skull where the story was junk and it was just riding nostalgia from the older films. I personally plan to throw in the towel when it comes to Hollywood.

I’m hoping lessons were learned from the last 3 films, though I have a feeling that they would stand up better were it not for the yardstick of the first 3. I doubt if there will ever be another film in the science fantasy genre that can match the impact of the first film. And for my money, The Empire Strikes back is the best of the three masterpieces.
You already know what JarJar Abrams did to Star Trek.
He raped it.
He will do the same to Star Wars.
The trailers literally give me chill bumps, so…..no. I refuse to even consider the possibility (I agree, 1–3 never should’ve happened).
The Stormtroopers look baller, so at least there’s that if all else fails.
Really, does it matter? It’s Star Wars! By standards of storyline and performing, they’re all pretty bad. But they’re fun. As Lucas himself has said, they’re a soap opera. According to him, the new ones will take a different tack, but it’s still Star Wars, so just enjoy it for that alone.
As far as I’m concerned they can’t possibly be worse than Episodes I-III, so there’s nowhere to go but up.
It would sound like a fart in a galaxy far, far away.
They did a pretty good job with battlefront, I’d say it’s the best Star Wars video game ever made. Not the best battlefield type game but it stayed truthful to the original three movies and there was very little reference to the new ones except for one of the maps. It just got me thinking if that can be done then I have a little hope that they won’t fuck it up so bad with this movie.
@ragingloli I thought the first jj abrams star trek was decent. The second not so much but how could you possibly go up against the wrath of Khan? Can’t be topped.
It was the stunning visualizations of the first film that made it revolutionary & breathtaking. The thing would have generated billions even as a silent film. But the cast of core characters was also exceedingly effective and resilient, and carried the Emipre and Jedi, both films in which that list was expanded. I think that after the visual surprise of the first film, any effort to top it visually was a waste of time. The visual high water mark had been set, and subsequent efforts might be required to match it, but the focus onward should be much more involved with writing and plot development.
What sucks for me right now is the non-stop barrage of heavy media promotion. Enjoyed it in the first few months since shooting started but now have quietly tucked away my fan brain in a cave of peaceful solitude somewhere secret.
At first, I had no doubt this new movie would be as much fun as the OT. Original cast and Kasdan are back as reassuring proof. I also have faith in JJ. That JJ will not destroy SW like Lucas did. Lucas set the bar too low when he ruined his own franchise.
I have lowered my expectations at this point. Vowed never to have suicidal thoughts after watching Phantom. I don’t think JJ is gonna make me want to pull my hair off but strangely enough….all this epic waiting and anticipating totally numbed me that any and all excitement is gone! LOL
Looks like George Lucas still cannot come to terms with the smell of his fecal matter.
Meh, Lucas has spouted that “small, personal films” shit at least since ‘Return of the Jedi’. Maybe ‘Howard the Duck’ was his idea of a “small, personal” film.
Don’t even think about it.
