Main reasons why people don't like Donald Trump?

Asked by CunningFox (1397points) November 22nd, 2015

Sorry for doing a political question…

What are the main reasons people don’t like Trump as a presidential candidate and as a person? Why do you not like him, if you don’t? Or if you do like him, why?

Thanks guys.

My reasons: He’s crude, he’s got no political experience, he says nasty things about women, he’s not diplomatic, as a Republican he most likely is looking to develop parklands, probably is against abortion, and probably is into cutting social programs.

Because he is a jackass who will say anything to get elected. I question his motivation but I question anyone’s motivation who wants to be in office.

He was a total bigoted, misogynistic jackass before he entered the race – like any true narcissist, he’s gotten even worse with more attention.

I dislike almost everything about him, and avoid paying any attention to him, so my list is far less complete and accurate than it would be if I actually paid more attention. However:

He has an aura that I instinctively dislike almost immediately, which is then confirmed by almost everything he says.

To me he’s almost a likable villain, if he were in a farcical fictional story. A funny Bond villain for Roger Moore’s 007. In the real world, he’s just another sleazy self-centered idiot who shouldn’t be allowed to waste the planer’s resources to the extent his wealth and fame allow. At least he’s funny.

As a presidential candidate, I think he actually does some service in the form of another flavor of the demonstration that American politics are a tragicomedy, and that the president is by no means the actual leader of the country. The first clear example was Ronald Reagan (a not very smart actor with a decaying brain). Then we had George W. Bush, and Sarah (I don’t even know what a continent is as opposed to a country) Palin as a VP candidate. It’s an absurd farce and/or exercise in how dysfunctional our “democracy” and media and journalists are, that these bozos were allowed to get anywhere near any elected office, let alone the presidency. They were obviously figureheads chosen for their presentability (to an incompetent public) and for their lack of actual agency: puppets, and obvious ones. If there are any actual smart political rivals in the real international power dynamic, these are clear demonstrations that someone/something else is actually pulling the strings, because sure as &^#% Ronald Reagan was not actually the true head of state for any real purposes.

So now we have the Trump candidacy. He’s both similar and different from the previous farcical candidates, and I’m not exactly sure what all the differences are, partly because I don’t particularly care – he’s clearly a circus act.

Then of course there are various insane specifics: the misogyny, the “build a wall” xenophobia, and the whole mega-capitalist ass-holery.

Read the history of his company bankruptcies. Shocking! He did it 4 times leaving creditors (you and me) at least $8 billion in the hole while keeping $4 billion for himself. That is over $10 for every man, woman, and child in America.
And he is so arrogant about it he states HE never went bankrupt – only his companies.

I have to wonder how he was allowed to borrow such huge sums after he, sorry, his companies, ripped off creditors the first or second time.

I will offer a side bet to anyone interested. I bet that the people who approved the 3rd and 4th “investments” were paid huge sums under the table to sign off. When/if he stops being a buffoon and becomes a real candidate this will be investigated in earnest.

He’s an asshole.

I can’t add anything to the, already, distinguished list of above answers. You guys have covered every reason and angle. haha

I don’t really dislike him though I wouldn’t choose to get within 100 yards of him. The thought of him as President would be laughable if it wasn’t, frankly, quite frightening and disturbing.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

He’s like a realistic Lex Luthor. Both obsessed with real estate and money.

I don’t dislike Trump. But that doesn’t qualify him for president. There are plenty of folks who can “act a fool” and say silly things. What I DON’T like is that a man can act a fool and say silly things, then lead the polls BECAUSE of it. The country’s always going to have it’s share of loudmouths and crass egomaniacs, but when a man openly announces through his every word and deed that “I am a crass and tactless man, and that is just what this country needs”, there is a great deal to worry about in the fact that SO many believe him.

Zaku's avatar

@stanleybmanly Yes. That Trump exists is fine. That he’s a leading candidate and isn’t immediately dismissed by everyone, shows how horrifyingly messed up our country is.

I can’t say anything bad about him, I’m hoping for an ambassadorship.

Dutchess_III's avatar

It’s not at all hard to find bad things about him, @Jaxk. He’s a complete ass wipe.

^^^ As were Obama’s comments about the Special Olympics back in 2009. If you’re looking for reasons to dislike someone that you already dislike, you can find them and political correctness is a good place to start. Unfortunately political correctness has been done to death. It’s like the boy that cried “Wolf” (I guess with the new regulations on goat herding maybe it should be the boy that texted “wolf”). The Trump supporters simply don’t bow down to the PC police and that aggravates them even more than the original sin.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Ha ha! The Huffington Post moved Trump from the political section of it’s magazine to the entertainment section, to appear along side the Kardasians and other circus freaks.

Obama made one of his very, very rare gaffes regarding the Special Olympics, and that was 6 years ago. It was a screw up. He didn’t intend it to be an insult.

Trump on the other hand….well, here are some tidbits from him just in the last couple of years:

Sorry losers and haters, but my I.Q. is one of the highest -and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure,it’s not your fault
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 9, 2013

I hear that dopey political pundit, Lawrence O’Donnell, one of the dumber people on television, is about to lose his show-no ratings?Too bad
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 25, 2015

.@krauthammer pretends to be a smart guy, but if you look at his record, he isn’t. A dummy who is on too many Fox shows. An overrated clown!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 5, 2015

Wow, Vanity Fair was totally shut out at the National Magazine Awards – it got NOTHING. Graydon Carter is a loser with bad food restaurants!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 2, 2014

Rick Perry failed at the border. Now he is critical of me. He needs a new pair of glasses to see the crimes committed by illegal immigrants.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 5, 2015

One of the dumber and least respected of the political pundits is Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post @TheFix. Moron hates my poll numbers
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 12, 2015

Word is that Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd, who has failed so badly with Meet the Press, will be taking over for now irrelevant Brian Williams!

@Jaxk: Some PC is too PC but I don’t see how anyone can justify Trump’s mimicking the physical actions of the disabled person. Would that be behavior I’d want to see the leader of the country portray?

Jaxk's avatar

@jca – I won’t dispute your point but when everything is run through the PC lens, it all begins to blend together. Just like the boy that cried ‘wolf’ when a real wolf approached, it was ignored. There’s a large segment of the population that is just sick of it and even if it’s a real wolf, they will ignore it. Sadly this is the state of affairs and all the faux outrage camouflages any real outrage that may exist.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Trump IS that wolf and you’d have to be blind not to see that.

Jaxk's avatar

@Dutchess_III – Trump is not my guy but I do like the way he has kept the press off their game. As for the Huffington Post, I give no more credence to them than I do the Onion. The Onion is just more entertaining. I would think we have the real wolf already in office.

stanleybmanly's avatar

@Jaxk Even you don’t believe that the criticisms of Trump or Carson are about their un-pc talking points. I mean grain storage in the pyramid and crowds of jubilant Jersey 9/11 Muslims, these things go beyond bad taste or gaffes. YOU cannot listen to this ever expanding list of nonsense day after day and tell us HONESTLY that you find this stuff palatable. I refuse to believe you to be “one of those people”. Jaxks, if the rational folks in your movement ignore the necessity to objectively label things for what they are, we are all doomed!

Jaxk's avatar

Stanely – The truth is I simply don’t find it pertinent. Whether Carson said some years back that the pyramids were used to store grain seems rather trivial. Maybe it’s a good reason not to vote for him but “we’re all Doomed” seems a bit over the top. The last couple of elections we’ve used trivia to decide the elections rather than issues and the press has been complicit in doing so. I think Trump has made some good points on the economy but I find his foreign policy lacking. Carson, less so on both issues. Those are the issues that drive my vote and most of the other crap, I couldn’t care less.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Common sense and the appearance of having some brains is not pertinent?

“We’re all doomed” just refers to the fact that anyone could actually take those two clowns seriously.

Jaxk's avatar

@Dutchess_III – Neither Trump nor Carson could have accomplished what they have without brains and common sense. It is that kind of rhetoric that diminishes your argument. They may not be the right candidate for president but they certainly aren’t stupid. That argument worked with Palin but both Carson and Trump are way too accomplished in their respective fields to be labeled as stupid. Maybe you can find some instance of Trump putting his dog on the roof of his car or maybe that his wife never had a real job and try and make an issue out of that like you all did with Romney but stupid won’t work.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I know. That’s why I said having the appearance of brains is important. I was just floored when Carson revealed his true beliefs. Floored and so disappointed. I had held him in the highest regard.

stanleybmanly's avatar

Frankly, I’m puzzled and very much troubled by Carson. Trump was born the son of a multimillionaire. Enough said! Listen, I’m not surprised that there are “I got mine” black conservatives. Selfishness is by no means race exclusive. Black conservatives are pretty much in the same category as log cabin republicans, Jews for Jesus and other oddball anomalies in screwball America. My criticisms of both Trump and Carson begin before we get to their politics. But it is extremely important to note that they are successful politically because they have carried successful Republican tactics beyond any region of murky disguise and openly revealed those tactics for what they are. Now my problem with both of these men is not so much about their defects. It is with the fact that I agree with their supporters that their popularity reflects “the wisdom of the American people”. We’re in big trouble!

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yes. I feel like we look so stupid to the rest of the world.
