How do you eat persimmon?
A friend stopped by last night to drop of some persimmons for me because they had a bunch and found out I’ve never had them before.
I honestly don’t know how I’m supposed to eat them. They don’t look like the kind of fruit you just bite into. Are there various ways to eat them? Anything specific I should know?
Yep, I could Google it, but that’s boring. I want to know what fellow Jellies do.

Like a plum. Just bite ‘em.
@kritiper Really? The skin seems really tough for that. How do I tell if one is ripe or not?

Ripe ones are soft and brown-spotted.
Sniff the bottoms. The sweet one
will be fragrant. How to eat:
put the knife away, lay down newspaper.
Peel the skin tenderly, not to tear the meat.
Chew the skin, suck it,

the meat of the fruit,
so sweet,
all of it, to the heart.
Relish everything but the leaves at the top. Luxuriate in the honey-soft flesh. Let the pulp stain your fingers with their sticky sugar. They are best shared with a lover feeding each other soft bites.
Well. I can’t say I was expecting this to be such a sexy fruit.
If done right, all eating is sexy.
I peel and stew them with cardamom and star anis.
Sorry to be boring, but I researched this recently. Lucky’s Market had them on sale really cheap, but I didn’t buy any because I didn’t know what to look for.
I’m now informed.
They used to come really cheap in New Zealand. They are in season in Norway now, but I don’t buy them because I’d be the only one in the house that eats them and they aren’t that cheap here.
@cazzie How do you stew them? I have quite a few, so I’d like to try your recipe. :)
I just peeled them and threw them in a pot on top of the stove.

Just to taste and just so it softens. If it is the bitter sort, add a bit of honey or sugar, but usually cooking them sweetens them up.
