Independent is more likely, even though he signed an agreement not to run as independent against the GOP. His lawyers are probably working on it now.

I truly believe he is there to split the republican vote for Hillary.
It is called political science, no?
Why is it so hard to imagine a few billionaires getting together to manipulate a political process?
Aside from Trump actually becoming President, what other scenario is possible at this point?

A Stink Lilly by any other name still stinks.

He would get beaten by Honey Boo-Boo.

This is the popularity of a television personality, not a leader. The Democrats would eviscerate any candidate who spouts this shit.

The difference between Trump running as a Republican and as a Democrat is that he is trying to exploit the most base feelings of the Republican base, which is xenophobic and anti-intellectual. And therefore the other candidates have tip-toed around from criticizing most of Trump’s statements because they don’t want to anger the base.

If he wanted to pander in the same way to the Democratic base, he would be saying the same thing as Bernie Sanders, and no one would be upset. Democrats don’t abide with racist or xenophobic statements or any kind of “winning” at the expense of others.

Trump would simply spew out whatever the left will eat up.

@zenvelo Most conservatives I have met consider the democratic base to be anti-intellectual lemmings who think they are intellectual but have the mentality and maturity of children (some of them are). Most Democrats I have met think that Conservatives are just dumb hicks (some of them are).

Good question. He’d probably be out Bern-ing Bernie.

Yes, Trump was a registered Dem in NY because you just about have to be to get building permits in NY. But he was never an active supporter of Democratic causes, just of glad handing them to do business.

Actually, stories have it the other way. He is a Democrat who started checking in as a Republican because he had more party support from them.

I’m hoping he gets exiled and has to go live with Melanias family or somewhere he is the hated, distrusted foreigner.

It won’t happen.

Someone needs to write “A CHRISTMAS Carol ” with Trump as Scrooge.

Clearly his base is on the right, ergo the GOP. Considering the sort of trash he talks, you gotta wonder whether or not he might have the same support regardless of party affiliation. In other words, mass defection of the loonies responsible for that patina of slapstick exclusive to Republican politics. The Democrats would then be saddled with the clown college graduate school reputation currently defining their opposition. Trump as a Democrat would actually leave Republicans in command of strange and unfamiliar (for them) territory, the moral high ground, as the dems wrestle the nightmare wrecking ball, “Rappin Donald”. It’s actually enlightening to watch as each crude embarrassing insult tumbles from Trump’s potty mouth, his popularity apparently skyrockets, leaving his party to clean up with apologies behind him. But the thing no one seems to notice is that Trump has “snatched the covers off” the REAL secret to all that success in post Reagan wing nut politics. Trump has simply hit on the formula to “outRepublican” his competition, and his success at it may very well plant Clinton in the White House.

It wouldn’t fly. He doesn’t fit the Democrat’s scenario/criteria. It would be like me telling people that I’m from Mars.

Over here in englandtown, a petition to have the Trumpster banned…yes, banned from Britain has been signed by over 100,000 Don haters.
Now apparently, that’s enough numbers to trigger an official debate in parliament & from there, they hope, to force a vote among MP’s. This I find utterly hilarious, I can only hope this debacle debate is televised, pure comedy gold.

@stanleybmanly The Democrats would not be saddled with that reputation even if Trump brought 20% of the electorate under the Democratic umbrella. The other candidates would not be fearful of calling Trump out from the very beginning.

Cruz is still cozying up to Trump, Rubio is trying to out-Trump him. Bush is afraid of being too strong on his criticism.

If the GOP leaders had condemned his rhetoric back in July, he would not still be in the spotlight.

stanleybmanly's avatar

@zenvelo I might have agreed with you at one time, but it apparently doesn’t matter who denounces the man. Every criticism of Trump as showboating crass spectacle only seems to up his ratings in the polls. While the dems may lack the solid history behind the GOP hold on the farcical loudmouth trophy, Trump’s candidacy is bound to disrupt and strew wreckage in whatever party he chooses to associate himself.

Now up to 250k signatures, you wanna go for double jeopardy?

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

@cazzie snl is probably working on it right now

Trump versus Sanders and Billary, whether in a race for the Democratic nomination or the general election, wouldn’t work.

Right-leaning democrats would go for Clinton, moderate conservatives would be totally disenfranchised unless they broke ranks and voted for her as well. People who are inclined to vote Sanders would never support Trump anyways.

Basically, the only votes Trump would get are from those who fear Muslims and Mexicans more than they fear being excommunicated from the Republican cult. That would not be very many either as they care so much about conformity that they don’t even bother forming their own opinions; they merely repeat something they heard from some frothing-at-the-crotch lunatic with a blog.
