I love potatoes, and I’m part Irish decent.

I wouldn’t ascribe it to cultural as much as familial. You love what gave you comfort when young.
You are only part Irish, what else are you made up of and what cultural adaptations would you ascribe to that?
Potatoes only have a few hundred years history in Ireland. If potatoes are your cultural food of choice, are you Incan? That’s where potatoes came from.
Potatoes came to Ireland as a cash crop in the 17th century. Irish folk have spent far more time slaving over potato fields owned by English nobles than they have eating potatoes.
Now, if you have a particular affinity for oatmeal and ham, we’ll talk.
I’ve been studying historical Irish food for a little over a year now, and most of it is bland, hearty fare made from grains and dairy products. Only the very wealthy could afford to eat beef except at festival days, poultry was rare. The most commonly eaten meat was pork.
And, So. Much. Butter.
I don’t think so. What I crave is mostly foods I grew up with and always loved, which mostly are southern Italian dishes. I’m not Italian. There are a few typical dishes related to my ancestral background that I like a lot, but I don’t crave them constantly. I could eat them a lot though, if someone made them for me and they didn’t have so much cholesterol. I need to watch my cholesterol.
Plus, how far back are we going to go? I’m Eastern European Jewish. Most likely my people thousands of years ago wandered a little.
