A recent Q about Christmas cards has me thinking about postcards. I was wondering if they have fallen out of favor like many traditional forms of mail.
I love postcards. I don’t only send them when I travel. When I lived in Memphis I came across Elvis postcards that I thought were just wonderful. I sent one to my mom and her sister, they loved Elvis back in the day. When I visit an interesting museum I’ll send friends or family a postcard if it’s a museum I think they would enjoy too.
I don’t send them very regularly, but I probably send out about 10–15 a year. I wish I sent more, but I’m a little lazy about it.
I don’t get postcards from any friends; not in a very long time anyway. I guess people don’t send them as often anymore. My parents send a postcard to me when they travel.

When I am traveling to interesting places, I send postcards to my grandkids with pictures of whatever cool places I was visiting.
For example, I was in Paris in Spring, and I mailed the grandkids cards with the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe.
Nah. No one to send them to, really. I like the idea of them, though.
If I ever left the country again, I’d probably send myself a postcard and see if I beat it home.
I don’t send postcards. Not only because it falls into the “traditional letter” category, which has been killed off by Facebook, but also because we don’t have the postcard tradition. Even back to the old days people just send letters. Postcards seem to require a special kind of paper, which we have never have. Nowadays some photos and a Facebook status are enough for a “postcard” if anyone I know want to share about their trips.
I used to learn about postcard format at (English) class, but to this day I still haven’t used any of the knowledge in real life.
@Mimishu1995 Postcards are usually sold at tourist spots. Most people don’t make their own. Although, I have “postcards” from my sister that she made from basic 3“x5” index cards (I don’t know if those were commonplace outside of the US?) and she just wrote on it and addressed it like a postcard, and our mail service delivered it just like a postcard. This is years ago, but I still have some of them.
I send them to work colleagues and my children when I go overseas. Other than that, no. I only do that because it’s sort of expected. I usually don’t get around to doing it until close to when we’re leaving.
No but my mom does. I think they’re charming.
I, too, think postcards are charming.
If I traveled to interesting places, I would probably send tongue-in-cheek “Wish you were here” cards as a lark.
For a while I had a habit of collecting bizarre or odd postcards. I have a HUGE pile of them that I used to send my kids and the kids of friends while they were away at college. Without exception, the boys saw no point to it, but the girls really got into it and sent cards back. Those who now live elsewhere still send cards & now have me sending cards to their kids who just love the game. My lazy wife gets a real kick out of going through the mail, but won’t join in the game.
No, unfortunately.
I have FB and sweet pictures with Christmas cats. It’s enough for me.
No, and I haven’t sent out Xmas cards either for years now.
Not that many people I’d care to send them to and I think greeting cards are over priced anyway. I’m not a sentimental type, if you send me a card I look at it and then toss it in trash. haha
