What does the list of names on the right side of your FB newsfeed show?

Asked by janbb (63258points) December 16th, 2015

It is friends’ names and it changes in order. I assume it shows that they are or were active on FB recently. Sometimes it is greyed out on my screen. Does anyone why it is greyed out and what it shows?

It also ranks your interaction with that friend. And, the display depends on the platform you are on: my iMac shows it differently from my iPad which is different from my iPhone.

My computer shows both my friends and my friends recent likes and postings.

Yes – the top is scrolling activity but below that is a list of friends. On my home computer it is always greyed out but here it seems to show if they are on FB or how long ago they were on.

Mine shows the people I’ve chatted with, and they have a green dot next to their names if they’re currently online, and a phone symbol with a number next to it (for example, “18m”) to show the last time they’d logged on. Under that, there’s another list called “more friends” or something like that. That also has the dot system to show if they’re on, but those people seem to be ones I’ve never chatted with.

Yes – that’s how it’s showing up here on my work computer. Doesn’t seem to be working right on home desktop though; maybe something’s blocking it there.

@janbb: Click on the asterisk and you may see options for “chat.” Maybe you have to expand chat or something.

Will try that.

Mine is basically Banjo-Picker’s Ex-Girlfriend Roundup.

Ah – got it now. Had to turn on chat to have them show.
