What Are Some Beautiful Words?

Asked by lugerruger (785points) December 17th, 2015

I’m making a diary for next year, and I would rather have a special name for it rather than just saying “dear diary,” every time. I am slightly obsessed with uncommonly used words, and I would love to use one of these words as the name of my diary. I am thinking of using the word “meraki.” Have you guys got any ideas?

Mellifluous

(it means beautiful to the ear, or pleasant to hear).

Ex: Judy Collins singing voice has a uniquely mellifluous tone.

@Cruiser Petrichor is one of my favorite words of all time!

J.R.R. Tolkien said in an interview that “cellar door” is the most beautiful phrase in the English language, for the combination of sounds. He was a linguist, so he would have spent a lot of time thinking about this stuff. His elvish languages are full of words that are beautiful-sounding and have beautiful meanings.

I’m personally partial to the words “golden” and “estuary.” A lot of people have been passing around those lists with words that have no direct translation in English. You may find some there as well.
