I won’t, but if I were, I think I’d probably lay in some favorite treats and hunker down with a stack of old movies. I probably wouldn’t talk to anybody or come out of hiding until two days later. I don’t believe there’d be any alcohol involved (and definitely no drugs), but there might be a bottle of wine.

But I haven’t actually been in this situation. For all I know, I’d go looking for society of some kind, community center or coffee shop or, hell, maybe even a church. It’s pretty hard to predict one’s behavior in a new situation, and sometimes we astonish ourselves.

What are you doing?

@ragingloli, you will probably hate this, but your post makes me want to take care of you.

@Jeruba
The hate is flowing through me.

Last year I was alone on Christmas. It was pretty sucky but I got through it. This year I’ll be with my oldest son and my grandsons.

But Joe just came back so I wouldn’t be alone even if I stayed home.

Not hardly. My problem is more about endurance.

No, thankfully. It would be really hard for me to be alone on Christmas, especially after my best friend died a week beforehand. It hasn’t been the same for me since then and I’m not sure where my mind would go if I had to be completely by myself. Honestly, I don’t even want to think about it. I would have to figure out a way to be with someone I know.

Yes. It will be pretty much like any other day.

@Espiritus_Corvus Naw – I’ve coached Sam and Dave and they plan to put out Christmas stockings and the cat will come down the chimney with gifts for you.

@Espiritus_Corvus, sail over here. You can join us for Christmas Day.

@RedDeerGuy1, I’m lucky enough to have family to spend the day with. If I didn’t, I think I’d go for a bushwalk. Take my camera and get out amongst nature.

Yes, but that’s fine. The crowd gathers on the 26th.

Oh, and I’m a Hanukkah-celebrator.

I was alone for Chanukah. It was fine. I lit the candles each night. It makes me think of my grandma.

My husband will arrive Christmas Eve. Just us.

No. School and textbooks stay with me.

I will be reading the Tempest for Christmas and Fluthering and talking with my mom over the phone. This will be the first Christmas alone.

@RedDeerGuy1, I’ve never seen you mention an interest in Shakespeare before. Do you read it aloud?

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@Jeruba No. I don’t have the privacy to read aloud . I give it a few days and if I’m stumped then I watch the movie.

Jeruba's avatar

I think it’s very positive and self-affirming to have a plan like that in place. Come by on Christmas and tell us how you liked it. Even if you’re not stumped, it might be fun to watch a filmed version after you read it.

Solo, As in Napoleon and Hans.
I will get my Sister set up where she is, leave her some gifts to open.
I will then return here to be at the beck and call of two very spoiled dogs and one cat- who essentially names the tune for all of us.
Reading, perchance a movie online, and something yummers for dinner.
Desert will be on the menu also.
Perhaps a drive in the PM, to look at the Xmas lights.
Or, I am going to be too exhausted and relaxing after Marley and the Ghosts of Xmas’ Past, Present and Future are done dragging me hither and yon. I do hope they bring libations this year! So cold out there!

I will be alone on Christmas Day but getting together with family the rest of the time. My plans are to chill out with the television and the Christmas tree.
