Like Christians with their Bibles, the book is the field manual exlplaining and regulating all of the nonsense. Do you REALLY need to ask this question?

It’s their holy book. I take care of some of my science fiction books as well.
Muslims care about the Qur’an because it is the sacred words of God; No falsehood can approach it from before or behind it. It is the constitution for their life sent to them from God, they follow its orders and fulfill its laws to achieve their good life in this world and great happiness in the hereafter. They see that everything told in the Koran becomes true in their lives. They also get sure that everything in the Koran matches what man reaches in science, inventions and discoveries. They also find in the Koran ease of their souls, contentment of their chests and pureness of their hearts.

Because they are taught to believe it is a sin to damage it and fear reprisals for doing so.
As a side note, treating its message like Spam cheapens it and brings it down to pedestrian levels. That is disrespectful.
I understand that the Quran is physically sacred to Muslims when written in original Arabic script. Translations and transliterations are not physically sacred.
I read about this when some students kept putting copies of the Quran on top of the library shelf saying that it should not have other books on top of it. The library staff in another university had looked into it and found this out, so we could put the books in the correct order and avoid a confrontation.
Why does anyone believe anything? It’s called programming.
Why do Americans feel it is bad to allow our flag to touch the ground?
It’s just a piece of material but the patriotic programming runs deep. Same goes for all sorts of beliefs and items given some sort of iconic status above and beyond reality.
If you were raised Muslim you’d believe this too, this is why it is important to remember that if any of us were raised in another culture or religion we would feel exactly the same.
Everyone is born a blank slate and it is always culture, religion, society, schooling and other factors that program us to our ways of thinking. It is a rare person that ever questions their programming. Some do, most do not.
