Does anyone know a TELEPHONE NUMBER to talk with a live person about a Verizon Wireless bill?

Asked by Yellowdog (12216points) January 4th, 2016

We may be stuck with it, but my girlfriend has a huge and unexpected data overage charge—evidently her WiFi use didn’t matter when she was connected with WiFi in her home.

The bill is over half of what she gets in a month, and already cannot make her budget stretch the month as it is. She gets help from me, and I am also very strapped for funds.

Also, we added a line for me which was supposed to be $20 a month with no activation fee, and they are charging $40 and have gouged me with a 70 dollar activation fee anyway.

Any advice and a telephone number to talk to a live person would be helpful.

Yes. Dial 611 using the phone in question.

(Just for fun, time how long it takes for them to try and upsell you something. They are notorious for it.)
Would you like fries with that?

Or (800)9220–204 No idea if there’s an actual person on the others end. It’s a telephone company after all, why would they want their customers to phone them?

(611 always reaches someone.)

I can hear it now.
Right now you have the 6 GB plan. You can upgrade to the 12 GB plan for only 40/month more. And because you have been a loyal customer for 4 years we will negate the overage charges for last month if you sign up for the new plan.

And they just hooked you into another 2 year contract.

That’s why I hated Verizon. Always making you sign up for the 2 year contract. You get strung along and it never ever ends.

Call the number on your bill. If you wade through the automated menus, there should be a choice for talking to a person. Or try pressing “0” at any point and that will usually get you to a person. I’ve actually found Verizon pretty helpful the few times I’ve had to call.

Is Wi-Fi Assist on? “The default setting in iOS 9 is for “Wi-Fi Assist” to be on. When it’s activated, the iPhone will use cellular data—from your cell phone plan—to supplement the Wi-Fi if the router signal is weak”

Is there a MetroPCS near you. Seriously consider ewitching.

They have UNLIMITED data PLUS my phone, and any phone one has, can be used as a wireless hotpot (to connect a laptop, or tablet to use the same unlimited data)

It’s the best thing I ever did. I wish I had dropped ATT sooner.

The problem with switching, @Buttonstc, is that you (he, the OP) will have to pay a penalty, probably a few hundred dollars, plus will still owe the bill if he doesn’t get bill rectified, and if he doesn’t pay it, it will negatively affect his credit.

@Yellowdog: Did you get the bill reduced?

I find that with pretty much anyone hitting 0 a bunch of times and yelling “goddammit!” into the phone cuts through the automated bullshit pretty quick.
