You have to leave your abode quickly. Forever. You grab for your most-prized possession. What is it?
– All people and pets are safely out.
– No, purists, your self-esteem, love, belief in Santa Claus, etc., do not count. C’mon, you can come up with something!
My choice comes down to a framed picture of my parents. -It’s gonna be hard to run by that fav book, though.
Your turn!

I’d say my guitar. My piano digital keyboard is a piece of junk and a pain to carry.
My carrrrrrrrrr, we loves it, precious.
Actually my car is technically outside the house, and therefore safe. So I’d probably grab a stuffed bear that I’ve had since I was a baby.
My clock radio. It was the first thing I ever bought for myself. GE clock radio is the oldest thing I own.
I really thought about this for awhile. I decided it’s all just stuff.
There isn’t one single item that I greatly value over all others. I want it all. I can’t even trim down my tshirt collection, and those are a dime a dozen.
All my pictures, music, home movies are digital. I would yank the hard drives out of my computer. They are actually on sleds so I could pop them all out in a few seconds.
My Lil Pony, his name is Tony, he is my homie.
My house, because it carries everything I need and love.
Photos, jewellery that has sentimental value and my hard drives. Anything else can burn.
Forever ??Then I would have to say my firearms.
One item?
I ask because many people above have listed multiple items.
My backup drive: It has a lot of photos I would be hard pressed to replace. Oh, and some work files as well.
Like @rojo, my backup drive and a few framed family photos not stored on it. If time, I’d grab my strongbox which contains documents and a bit of money I’d rather not lose.
As many of the family photo albums as I could carry. I’ve thought about this a lot – even moving them to a safer spot after Hurricane Sandy. They are what is irreplaceable.
With the invention of iCloud and Dropbox and the like, I couldn’t care less about grabbing photos.
^^ But my kids grew up pre-digital cameras and my early photos are only in albums.
@janbb: I lived in a building that burned in a fire, and my possessions weren’t burned but they got water damage. A lot of my photos were wet and had to be dried out, and many were not able to be salvaged due to sticking together. What I tried to do after that, in my new apartment was to put photos in plastic bins so that should that happen again, they’d be dry. Now, in the house I live in, I have so many printed photos that many are in shoe boxes, which would not be impervious to water, but it was a good thought.
The first harp I made for my daughter (technically, it’s hers, not mine, but it lives in my house). I worked damned hard on that thing, and it means a whole lot to her. There are two other harps that I made for her also in the house, but that first one is almost a member of the family.
Our uncirculated gold and silver coins, I guess. It’s really hard for me to narrow it down to one thing. Probably would grab my purse and keys just out of habit.
A change of clothes and my dog. The rest of the shit can burn.
I can’t think of anything. I guess I would grab something to occupy the little ones.
I need to get all of my electronic photos into the cloud.
The answer is that for me it changes. Possibly a carnival glass dish that came from my great grandmother or perhaps the new pendant my husband gave me for Christmas, which is very lovely and meaningful to me of our 32 years together.
Sorry to stomp on your parameters for the question, but at my age, things just don’t mean much to me anymore. None of them are accompanying me to my next existence if there is one.
My bug out bag as it has a terabit backup, first aid, cash, food, water, firearm, ammo, small paperback of HG Wells War of the Worlds, other assorted survival items and a harmonica.
@Cruiser – you came pre-packed! H.G.Wells, eh?
My alcoholism. I made it and it is 100% mine,
@msh HG Wells just happens to be the smallest paperback I own. :)
Probably a large framed picture of Barbra Streisand. All my other pictures (family, memories etc) I have copies of but not that one!
@SecondHandStoke Yes, but Grasshopper- do you own your personality, or does it own you?
My boat: the American Sailing Vessel Compass Rose out of Tarpon Springs, Florida
@msh
Both.
Like everyone else if they are honest with themselves.
Oh fine. Now my head hurts.
Soo unfair, hopper of grass…....
I guess the first thing that I am going to take is my cell phone. Or some pants.
