When will fiber optic cable be cheaper?

I watched a how it’s made video on YouTube from 2011 and it seems tedious and labour intensive and I was wondering if they have an update for 2016? Can you show me a chart on how prices have fallen?

Prices on my optic cable since update have stayed the same BUT the speed is six or seven times as faster.
