Christians: when you hear someone is a socialist do you relate that to atheist?

Even if you don’t do you hear other Christian friends and family members who think that way?
I ask, because socialist has been thrown around so much regarding Obama and Sanders.
I know that at least some Christians associate atheism with communism, because they have said it to my face. They learn I am an atheist, and then ask if I am a communist, or tell me I am. Really?
I don’t know if socialist is used interchangeably with communist in some circles and if that means it’s also associated with atheism.
