@RedDeerGuy1: It sounds like you sleep all day and are awake only a few hours?

These days I get up, dress, take a few minutes to feel and communicate gratitude for the blessings that I have in my life, sit in front of my computer and catch up on email, Fluther and a couple of other sites, practice yoga for a few minutes, eat breakfast (usually plain greek yogurt and berries) and have coffee.

I sleep in until 6:30 or 7 (which is late for me, when I work I am up at 4). I walk down to the local starbucks for a latte while listening to The Writer’s Almanac podcast. Then when I get home I drink coffee and check emails and look at Facebook and fluther.

And then after an hour or so, I go for a run before I eat breakfast.

It’s a two edged sword. I just realized I never sleep in on the weekends because I relish the early morning hours alone while everyone is still sleeping. The wife and kids are now away on vacation and being all alone, I slept in really late the last two days and loved it! Opened my eyes to a whole other realm I have missed out on the last 20 years. I finally woke up…sat in the rocker with a cup of coffee and my sketch book…it’s lunch time and I am still in my robe….I could get used to this!

My routine doesn’t change much. I may sleep a little longer, that’s all. I don’t use an alarm clock unless I’ve got to get up really early to catch a flight or something. The sun rises early here and the birds are damn noisy. So I’m usually awake between 5–7 am. Sometimes earlier, unfortunately. I’ll often read until my husband wakes naturally. Then we share a cup-of-tea/coffee. Talk about the day to come while we watch some news on my laptop – the TV aerial needs repositioning and has done for a couple of years – then he or we get ready for work. If I’m working from home, I won’t ‘get up’ properly until he leaves.

It depends. If the wife goes to work (most days) and the daughter goes to school (most days) I am up at 5:30. Once I’m up I start coffee, get breakfast ready. I wake up the wife and daughter, make sure they’re up and moving, and I make lunches. At least once a week, I have to get dressed to take the trash out to the curb. If winter weather is extreme, I will get dressed, clear snow/ice/frost from the windshield as I let the engine warm the interior of the vehicle. If it is not trash day, and the weather is warm enough, I will stay inside, remain in my PJ’s and robe, and wait until everybody else leaves before I get changed. Sometimes I don’t change until it’s time for me to get ready to go somewhere. During warmer weather, I’m usually doing something outside, so obviously I get dressed to go out for that.

Do you sleep late? My sleep changes constantly when I don’t work. I might wake up at 4:00am, stay up for two hours, and sleep in until 8:00am. If I sleep through the night, which I often do, I usually wake around 6:30 or 7:00.

Wake up with the sun? No.

Linger with coffee? I don’t drink coffee, but I like a slow start in the morning. I might just lie in bed for a while, sometimes watch a little TV.

Eat a big, indulgent breakfast? I eat breakfast 95% of the time. I guess it’s average size. I often have an omelet or sometimes cereal. Sometimes something left over. I don’t mind eating lunch for breakfast.

Read the paper? No. I might get a little news on Facebook (if you can even count that) or watching TV.

Go out to get coffee or other hot beverage? Never.

Work out? Yes, if there is a Zumba class. Usually I go to Zumba 3–4 times a week, some of the classes usually are in the morning. I also like water aerobics, which usually is in the morning. I’m less consistent about water aerobics though.

Watch TV? Yes, as I mentioned above I often watch a little TV in the morning. Sometimes it’s more background noise. I either watch DVR or a little Morning Joe now that the Presidential election is in full swing. If my husband is home he usually watches the ABC morning show, whatever that one is (I think Good Morning America?) so I might see that a little bit here and there.

Take a shower and run out to do errands? Eventually. But, like I said I like a slow start. I usually line up my typically weekly errands to do after Zumba, when I am already out.

Not shower all day and hang out in your jammies? Rarely all day. However, in Jammie’s until 9:00am is not very uncommon. Most of my Jammie’s are loungewear type clothing. Still, I slept in them, and easily might have been up since 6:30 and just getting in the shower around 9am, sometimes later. If I’m going to Zumba I just change into gym clothes.

Tidy and clean the house or try to do something productive? Yes. I often do this early before I get ready for the day. I only clean “the house” once a week really. Although, I’m always cleaning up little things like putting things away, the kitchen every time you use it, that sort of thing. “The house” is things like cleaning the bathrooms, swiffer the floors, and vacuuming. I don’t necessarily do those all on the same day. I dust about twice a month, and mop the floors about twice a month, except the kitchen a little more often as needed. I do laundry at all different times, sometimes in the morning.

Feel entitled to be and enjoy being lazy? I completely appreciate when I can be lazy if I feel like it. So grateful. I worked last year, and luckily I didn’t have to be at work until around 9:30, but I missed doing whatever I want whenever I want. It wasn’t so much lazy as it was being able to control my schedule. Most of the world wants you to be an early riser and very productive and alert in the morning, and I’m best a little later. Although, I do admit I had it “lazy” easy for a long time. My days filled up anyway, but it doesn’t compare to having a full time job, and juggling everything, and having to be at work by a certain time. The obligation can’t be compared to not having that obligation.
