As asked. (Or am I just getting really old? Don’t answer that!)

I giggled when I read the question. I spend too much time in the hunt for XYZ. I’ve begun to make a conscious effort to stay focused when I leave one room in search of something in another room. Even that doesn’t always work. I often utter, “Why am I here?” as I stop dead in my tracks in a room.
Interestingly (at least to me), I spent the majority of last year engaged in two separate moves as I’ve begun to downsize for retirement. I am amazingly accurate at telling you where something we’ve unpacked is located, but I can’t remember where I took off my flip-flops. go figure.
Sad to say… a bit more with each passing day.
I recently bought a tiny electronic tracker to help me locate my phone and keys but have discovered that when my phone’s bluetooth setting isn’t on I need another tracker to find it to turn it on so I can track it. :(
Over the last few years I’ve lost (or misplaced) several valuable (at least to me) items in my house that I fear are gone forever.
I usually put things in the same place. Most of my time I’m looking for something my husband misplaced. He tends to put things down wherever he is.
@marinelife It’s not things like my handbag or my keys which I always put in the same place. This was sparked by my search for my mug of tea. Most of the time is spent looking for where I put the book I am currently reading.
None. I put things down in a standard location, so I know where the things are. Easier that way.
@elbanditoroso Did you read my post above? It’s the things that float that I have to look for.
It’s not the search for things that takes up my time, it’s the time I spend trying to remember what the hell it is that I’m searching for.
I search for…
- my glasses
– my toothpaste
– my book(s)
– my slippers
– dog training clickers and
– my cellphone
…at least once a day.
And I’m ridiculously young! ;)
I’m usually pretty good, as long as I’m home. I have a pretty limited area of travel. If it’s not at spot A, B, or C it likely isn’t in the house (i.e. I left my coat, hat, gloves, cell, keys, etc. in the car again.)
It’s at work that it’s maddening trying to find something. Can you imagine setting your camera down in an auction house that has junk strung along all 4 walls? Or a pair of work gloves? I’ve gotten into the habit of keeping at least 2 pair of work gloves in-house. I can usually find one pair or the other.

Less than I used to. In fact, considerably less than I used to. There’s a pair of eyeglasses misplaced somewhere in this house. They’ve been missing for a couple of years. That was the final straw. I have been making a concerted effort to NEVER randomly put anything diwn. There is an assigned pair of glasses to each floor of the house in addition to the pair in each of the vehicles. Keys are either in a lock or my pocket unless I’m asleep or in the shower. At those times, my keys live in the center of the kitchen table along with 2 pens which are ALWAYS with me if I’m clothed, the folding money and change are assigned to separate pockets, and I always carry rubber bands (#64).
Ahem, we have staf…oh you know by now <hee-hee>
Virtually zero, I have a very good memory and am organized, but…let’s not talk about the mid-life dementia of losing my car in parking lots. THAT is really becoming a problem.
Almost every night, when I’m about to watch TV, I have to search for my prescription glasses. We have 2 TV’s, one upstairs and one downstairs. I always leave the glasses in the room of where I was last watching one of the TV’s. Almost invariably, I search the wrong room first, because I can’t recall where (or what) I was watching.
