What's a good site to use to play free games without a ton of cookies and crap?

Asked by ibstubro (18804points) February 9th, 2016

Basic games, like Mahjong, Bejeweled, solitaires.

Any other places you go to kill time, mindlessly?

Get a disc of games and load it to your PC.
Free on the internet equates cookies, crap, viruses and malware. Just go to any free porn site.

Nothing is free. The data those cookies and crap collect is why the sites are able to provide the game without charge, but it is not free.

Yeah, I was trying to download some game thing and I ended up with Ask.com hijacking my browser.

Don’t they know that just pisses people off at them!?

I haven’t had that experience…yet. I am very wary on the Internet. I’m even suspicious doing a Google search. Many of the top spots on the results are paid for. I look at the link carefully to make sure I’m going exactly where I want to go and not to some other site that is going to collect information and piss me off by making me jumps through hoops to get what I was searching for. Even reputable sites like CNET can be difficult with downloads.

It’s life.

Whenever you use an internet service that’s free, YOU are the PRODUCT, NOT the CUSTOMER.

“Cookies and crap?” While you’re on the computer?? Shame on you!

Either you play it online, or pay for it or, like me, torrent. Games like Bejewled charge money or there are some free “remake” on the internet in the form of online flash games. If you can download, it may be an infected file.

Once upon a time Nabisco had a great little site where I could go an play games for free. All the game pieces were ‘branded’ but it worked well.

That makes me think of “Pop-cap” Mahjongg with all those different layouts and that fantastic clicking noise the tiles made when you matched a pair. Gone now. All gone. Remember Alchemy? I’m gonna look that up now. Prolly have to pay though.

Get a tablet and use the apps provided either in the Apple Appstore, Google play or the Amazon Appstore depending upon your flavor of OS.

Many of the great games are free (or freemium) and there are (usually) no viruses. Some have quick ads now and then but that’s a small price to pay for a great game. And as long as you dl your apps from a trusted source, there are tons and tons of great games.

Bejeweled is one of the first Match-Three type games to be widely successful but there are several using that same format which, imho, have surpassed it.

Indy Cat is one and Spell fall is another. They’ve taken the basic match 3 concept and added so much extra to it that I find it pretty impressive.

Anyhow, if all you want is really good games then a tablet is your best bet. And they’ve now become so ubiquitous that sales at really good discounts are frequent.

Plus, with a tablet, you can play anywhere. You’re not tied to your computer desk.

Give it some consideration.

@Jak

Most of the great PopCap games are not gone at all. They’ve just moved to a different platform; a mobile one. They’re available as apps for phone or tablet. Most great games now have gone to mobile as well as pc.

It’s the future, baby. Get with it :)

I just want to play some basic time killers on my Win7 PC with as little hassle as possible.

I tried to delete my last post because it wasn’t relevant, but it didn’t take. Sorry about that.
