If a flat-tax was used why would a postcard be necessary?
Not a lot of details about how this works over the decades of the idea being tossed around I am still baffled.
#1: The government straight up puts it on the employer to pay your tax and you shouldn’t have to deal with anything.
#2: Some postcard shit where you pay at the end of the year. It should be pretty clear why that wont work. People suck at saving.
Here is the Ted Cruz postcard:

To be honest that looks just as complicated as my current taxes. Enter itemized deductions without any explanation of what that means.. That is why you fit the shit on a postcard and my 1040EZ is 25 pages.

Am I missing it or does he say if he wants the employer to collect or does he expect the employee to save and hope they can pay at the end of the year?

I doubt your EZ form is 25 pages. Can you even itemize with an EZ? I haven’t looked at it in years.
I just looked at your link, and I agree it looks basically the same as what we have now. He has a line to itemize (line 4) and itemizing is part of the “extra pages” when filing. That line is going to give the people who have more money more write-offs! At least that’s the way I see it. I think it’s deceptive in a way. A lot if people are completely clueless about taxes and don’t catch or understand that. I want to see what Cruz is allowing to be itemized. I’m also curious to know if countries with so called flat taxes allow for itemization.
I kind of like the idea of a flatter tax with fewer write-offs and loopholes, but I don’t think it’s as simple as all that. I also find it horrible to sell something as a flat tax when it probably really isn’t.
I don’t see why you’re worried about the saving and payment? It says on the card that you subtract what you paid from what you owe.
Cruz is a boob and takes the crown for most dishonest politician ever. His tax proposal trumps Bernie’s promise of free college by a wide margin…hard for me to process that he or anyone would actually say this thinking anyone would buy into this…
“As a result, the Simple Flat Tax will ensure that low- and middle-income Americans have greater opportunities – not only through minimal taxes, but also through better, high-paying jobs that the Simple Flat Tax will generate.”
Seriously?? C’mon Ted…if that is the best you can do you then you need to consult with Sarah Palin to get better campaign advice than you are currently getting.
Many people have no employer and would have to self-report.
