No, it’s basis is discomfort and bigotry and it is justified by religious belief.

No. It seems to be with profound discomfort with one’s own sexuality. People secure in their own sexual expression don’t really care how others express it. People not comfortable in their own skin seem to freak out at the least bit of sexual exploration off the basic male dominant paradigm.

I think it’s mostly taught like any bigotry or racism. Part of the problem is the fear of the unknown so rumors take hold. I know straight men who think gay men can’t control themselves. Like when there was discussions of allowing gay people in the military they thought a gay man in the barracks would mean the other men were at risk if him making unwanted sexual advances. It’s stupid.

Here’s an answer from a similar question:

“Heteronormativity – the notion that the only ‘right’ way to be is for women and men to be together in order to make more people so that those new people can contribute to the economic affairs of the countries you mention. Apparently, people think that us queers can’t reproduce, but I guess my two kids would beg to differ. Although, the homophobes would probably ignore my identities and just say ‘but you’ve got a vagina and you’ve had sex with a penis, you’re all right by us’...that’s how, I believe, my mother views it and she’s from the ‘Iron Curtain’ country.”

No. It is the homophobia that requires the manufacture of religious impediments to the acceptance of reality.

Yes, it is. Religion justifies and magnifies the homophobia that exists with the members of a given sect. It (religion) sanctifies their hatred; although most will argue that they still “love” the sinner but “hate” the sin. This is just whipped cream on a turd; an attempt to hide the hatred by misdirection.

It could just be a coincidence but everyone I know that is homophobic (we are talking burn in hell homophobia instead of just “I don’t get it homophobia”) is religious.

I have buddies and they would never beat you up for being gay, they just don’t understand why you don’t like boobs as much as they do.

The religious ones use the Bible to drag a gay kid behind a truck.

The influence relies strongly on the neanderthal brain.
