Care to give tribute to Pat Conroy, author of the much admired books The Great Santini and The Prince of Tides, who died of cancer Friday, 3-4-16, at age 70?

‘Prince of Tides’ author Pat Conroy lauded after death at 70

Seems to have been a lovely man as well as a great author.

“The reason I write is to explain my life to myself,” Conroy said in a 1986 interview. “I’ve also discovered that when I do, I’m explaining other people’s lives to them.”

RIP Pat.

One of the great modern Southern Authors. I will miss his work.

Sort of a semi-tribute. I thought that The Lords of Discipline was superb – a really excellent story.

I was not nearly as happy with The Great Santini, or for that matter, anything else he wrote.

So goodbye to Conroy, who (my opinion) was good but not great.

His limning of dysfunctional family systems meant a lot to me over the years even though at times his prose was overblown. He died too soon for his own sake as well.

Wonderful author, I’m very sorry to hear this.

Oh no, I didn’t hear this. He is my favorite author!! Not favorite Southern author, favorite author. He also was a good guy, a very good man. I have read all of his work. I know Beach Music by heart. I was so disappointed that after UA (I believe it was) announced it was to be a major motion picture, it never happened. We lost him way too young.
