Is there proof and or evidence that Moses existed?

Asked by NerdyKeith (5489points) March 11th, 2016

Even as a human being. I’m not asking for proof that he really spoke to a deity. As I know that would be impossible to prove even if it were true (which I don’t believe it is).

But is there proof that the Moses who “claimed” to have spoken to God existed?

Well…if he didn’t there goes the first 5 books of the bible. lol
From what little research I’ve done it seems that there is no conclusive proof of Moses existing or of the Exodus.

I don’t think so. No Exodus, either. Nor Hebrew slaves in Egypt (Semitic slaves, yes).
See http://skeptics.stackexchange.com/questions/3529/did-moses-live .

From a power point of view the Jews were bit players in the region. There is even dispute as to the existence of kings David and Solomon. Even if Moses did exist, the Egyptians may have viewed the exodus as a minor slave rebellion not worthy of mention in their writings.

No. None whatsoever. And @zaku is right about the Hebrews in Egypt. No evidence.

Just as a side note, at our Passover seder every year my buddy and me usually make a point to say, “This is all a myth. It never happened. Okay, let’s eat.”

Well, someone wrote the first five books of the Bible. Are you concerned that a notary public should have notarized them?

Nopers. There isn’t even any evidence out side of the Bible for Jesus’ existence.
