To those who agree with spanking a child then Is it OK for them to spank you when you are a senior citizen?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24986points) March 17th, 2016

The senior has a mind of a child. May or may not have dementia. In social. No I’m not going to spank anyone. How would you punish or control senior who is disturbing the peace. Other than sedation.

Respect your elders young man! Jk

On a serious note, while disciplining children can be challenging. I’d recommend at least trying other measures such as detaining the child or taking away their luxuries.

@NerdyKeith I was traumatised when my NES power cord was taken away. I just bought a second cord and my father beilved that I was being punished. So I played with imputiny . Only cost me $20. I had a TV in my room since I was 11.

No, that would be considered elder abuse. Adults don’t need to be disciplined anymore.

@NerdyKeith One of the 2 spankings my daughter got was at age 4 or so when I was in the middle of meeting with a potential buyer for a car we were selling at the time. She went into the house and came out with an entire box of crackers and proceeded to run amok all over the yard with our dog, throwing him crackers and going nuts. Kid going nutso, dog barking, refusing to settle down after numerous requests.
Yep, that was a spanking moment, not without a lengthy explanation as to why. haha

No. It’s not the same thing. It’s a silly comparison.

The thing is, spanking children will be more widely understandable for discipline but… spanking a senior citizen will make yourself available for lawsuit. Senior people don’t need discipline, they’re already way too over-disciplined to learn another disciplinary course.

Spanking either is abusive.

I disagree that the occasional modest swat or spanking is abusive. If you think about it every single animal uses some method of physical discipline. Cats swat their kittens, bears cuff their cubs, mares nip at their foals, I do agree that corporal punishment should be used very sparingly, if at all, but I do not consider a child that gets one or two spankings as a youngster to be abusive. I’m not talking wood sheds, switches and razor straps. haha

@Coloma
And male Lions kill the cubs of their predecessors.
Humans could learn so much from other animals.

@ragingloli You’re really going out on a limb here, swatting a child is hardly on the same continuum as killing a genetic rivals offspring.
