Would it devastate you if Fluther closed down without warning?
Where is the muster point for Fluther users?

I’d be pretty upset. I’d want fair warning to get emails, Facebook, or phone numbers of people I want to keep in touch with.
Yes. Fluther is about 40% of my internet usage so it would be a loss.
I am in touch with a lot of Jellies who are on Facebook, but there are a bunch of Jellies who are not. I’d like to have their contact information so we could keep in touch, or if they joined Facebook, that would be easier. I do realize that Facebook is not for everyone, though.

Devastate, no. Disappoint, yes.
In the late nineties I was active on a bulletin board related to Car Talk, it turned into a real community much like Fluther, in that people would get concerned if someone disappear for a week, and also that people met up in real life. That all fell apart when the web site got redesigned. It was very disappointing, but not devastating.
That would be sad. Fluther is the website where I’m the most active. There are some people here who I really like and only know here. I know there is a Facebook page for Fluther but if Fluther shut down a lot of people would just disappear as not everyone is on Facebook.
I would miss the interaction and discussion here. Facebook is different from Fluther and not everyone would feel compelled to discuss on Facebook.
I’d be sad but not devastated. I’m with @JLeslie I’d like to have the contact info for 6 or 7 people here to stay in touch now and then.
If they did this I would be super pissed.
If it came to that I would hope they would be willing to hand it off to someone else.
Devastate would be a stretch. Irritate me is more likely.
I assume that you mean closed down as in permanently. So long as there are substitutes out there I won’t be devastated by this situation. Disappointed? Yes.
I have left and re-joined Fluther for many different reasons.
I’d be incredibly disappointed. It wouldn’t be the first time it had happened to me, though. Everyone’s Connected did a sudden switch-over to a brand new format which made us all lose contact with each other. MySpace Groups and Chat just vanished one day, no warning. MSN Groups did the same.
These were all very active communities. The MSN groups page that I was a member of had plans to travel and meet up with each other right at the time of the collapse, but because we all assumed our group would always be there, we didn’t have alternate contact information.
Now, I like to make sure I have at least a few peoples’ email addresses or connections on another site. Fortunately Facebook has become a reliable muster point for now.
If we’re not connected and you want to be, I’m here – you’ll have to send me a message if you’re not already a “friend of a friend”.
I’d be pretty down about it but I don’t see it as likely that they would shut us down with no warning. If they did, I’d beat up Ben next time I’m in SF.
^^ Me too. I think Bendrew are better than that. I think they realize that this has all the hallmarks of a close IRL community including the life altering events of couplings, marriages, births and deaths together. I trust that they understand the unhappiness pulling the plug without warning would bring upon so many people.
And we shouldn’t forget that shutting the site down would also shut down their CIA-NSA-IRS income stream.
I wish people would stop asking these kinds of questions. I refuse to think about it.
I’d be awfully sad, and completely surprised if it happened. I highly doubt the site would ever just shut down with no warning.
I wouldn’t be devastated but I’d certainly miss it for a while.
But hopefully I’d stay in e-touch with some of the friends I’ve made here.
No…not just no, but hell no, I would pop the bubbly chilling on standby…..
I just logged in to check on you people and I am having a panic attack this conversation is going on
It wouldn’t “devastate”, but I’d be disappointed. I don’t see much reason why websites need to close without warning, especially given that it isn’t usually something decided in two seconds.
I would be disappointed. However Yahoo Answers will be shut down before Fluther will. And also keep in mind the this website is owned by Twitter. And Twitter is run a lot better than Yahoo.
I really can’t even entertain the possibility. I strongly believe we would get ample warning.
A communications disruption can mean only one thing: Invasion
Like others above, I wouldn’t be devastated, just disappointed to lose a place for good fun and sometimes stimulating conversation. There are a few folks I’d like to have more personal contact, but that’s easily taken care of, without the demise of the tidepool.
I would be really disappointed. This is the only place I ask my questions to. I find this site to have a more mature group than other question and answer sites. I had to leave Yahoo Answers because that was becoming ridiculous. If this site shut down, not sure where I’d turn to.
Wait, without warning? There have been warnings since before I came along.
Fluther is like one of those early Hollywood death scenes; one more death twitch, one more gasp, choke, groan.
@Here2_4 It’s mainly some of the members though who are talking it into its death throes.
