We have carpet, but then we have rubber mats over the top of that.
Rubber is the sensible choice for any “work” vehicle, and I intend to put any vehicle I own to work. If the thing comes with carpet, I always buy the rubber mats to cover it. The wife’s Subaru has carpeted floor mats. So be it.
I dislike carpet floors in any vehicle it is hard to keep clean and dry, people always say just put down a rubber mat, then why have carpet in the first place, our vehicles all have rubber floors.
I have carpet mats over the carpet, so I guess it’s carpet. haha
I actually bought two little black throw rugs that I can easily pull out and shake off and toss in the wash.
I prefer carpet.
Last year, on my previous car’s floor I had a piece of rubber over the carpet and it shifted on top of the pedals. I didn’t realize it and I got into a minor accident when I was stepping on the brake and the mat was depressing the gas pedal simultaneously. I didn’t realize what was happening, all I knew was that I was stepping on the brake and the car was still inching forward. I only did about 400 dollars worth of damage to the bumper of the lady in front of me, and I was very grateful it wasn’t worse. I learned to be very cautious with what you put on the car’s floor and how it’s secured.
Definitely rubber! I considered it a very bright idea when I came up with it years ago. Rubber doesn’t look as nice as carpet but it certainly protects against wet shoes, spills and drains better.

Elephant, you invented rubber floor matts?!?
Clarification, @cookieman: I came up with the idea to use rubber floor mats when I bought a new car and realized how tired I was of always having frayed and dirty carpet mats with holes below the gas pedal.
@Pachy: For a moment, I was so impressed. Still, you’re an amazing elephant.
@Pachy we ordered both our pickup trucks with rubber floors, the sales man was a pain in the ass saying everyone wants carpet,I told him if they come with carpet floors he can keep them and we will go to another dealership.
The bare, carpet delete, acoustic melt sheet delete, body painted metal floor pan.
This is literally something I have never, even once, considered to be something I should have a preference for.
My car has a carpet floor and carpet mats. This has caused me no great inconvenience so far, so I’ve had no urge to spend money changing anything.
I prefer rubber mats so that I can take them out and dump the sand every few days rather than having to vacuum that often.
