Men, do you leave the toilet seat up or down?
After you urinate do you leave the toilet seat up or down? At home I always put it back down when done, as I like my bathroom to look halfway decent. It’s sorta what I was taught as a young boy too. It’s a very rare occasion that I leave it up, if I do, it honestly slipped my mind for some reason. In a public restroom I don’t normally have to worry about it, as I usually always use the urinals to pee. If I do use a stall to pee though, I still normally would try to put it back down out of habit.
So, up or down? What is your thoughts on this?

I leave it up. The wife leaves it down, and neither of us care or give it any thought. We both grew up with siblings of the opposite sex. Maybe that explains our indifference. I’m glad it’s this way. There’s already plenty of genuine stuff to be concerned about.
^^That’s interesting. I grew up in a big household with two girls and five boys. It wasn’t important to me until I married a woman who grew up with only sisters The first time I heard her scream at 3am then found her sitting helplessly in toilet water cured me forever. Twenty years of marriage to her trained me to always leave it down. It’s simply being conscientious.
Down. I live with only women.
Down. Even though I have a bathroom I only share with my son, it’s neater. Especially since I live in California where we don’t flush after we pee.
@zenvelo So, you mean you actually close the lid? I think of seat down as just the seat down.
Yes. For one thing, I like to put my foot on the lid when I am drying off after a shower.
Down, even though I live alone. It looks nicer. Plus, sitting down in the dead of night into an open “pot” (as my dad called it) is noooooo fun. I know.
Down. Lid down as well.
Though honestly I think it’s weird that it became the man’s job to always be sure the seat is down instead of the woman’s responsibility to make sure there’s a seat there before she puts her butt down.
If my girlfriend moved the chair at my desk, and I went to sit down in my usual spot before looking to see it had moved and fell on my ass as a result, I wouldn’t blame her for moving my chair, I’d blame myself for being a dumbass.
The lid or the seat part? I usually keep one or both up so I don’t have to keep touching the toilet.
Where I work, there is a large ladies’ room, a large men’s room and a single multisex handicapped acessible bathroom. I appreciate men who use the single bathroom to put the seat down simply so I don’t have to touch it.
At home, it’s just me and daughter and so it’s not an issue.
I generally leave it down—I was never really made to do that, but it’s just a habit. I don’t leave cupboards open, the shower stall open, nor the toilet lid. There’s just a sense of “completeness” about leaving it down. I’ll admit to being lazy sometimes and leaving it up, though, especially when you live exclusively with other guys.
