Researching a specific market category?

Asked by Jonathan_hodgkins (690points) March 25th, 2016

I am interesting in doing some market research on specific market categories (example: office organization products). What are some tools or resources that I can use to deduce market trends, growth areas or the overall market value. I want a clear picture of everything happening within that particular market category.

There are a lot of financial resources outlining participants in different industries. Find the companies you wish to investigate, then start looking at their financial reports. Check for analyst coverage of the companies for an idea of how the industry prospects are, and then look at the company itself to see if it will be a leader or a laggard in the industry.

Depends on the product, the market, and the location.

The US Department of Commerce prepares numerous industry forecasts and related data in many industries every year.

Various industry groups do similar, and more detailed analyses.

Other countries out of the US- somewhat of a mixed bag.
