Are you an injury prone person?

Asked by imrainmaker (8380points) March 28th, 2016

Some people are prone to injuries in their lifetime. Not major but little ones here and there. Do you fall in this category? If so how has it affected your life like not able to enjoy simple things etc.?

I just burned myself and this is a perfect time for me to vent about it. It happened almost an hour ago and it’s still hurting as much as it did for the first seconds. My thumb is shriveled from being constantly submerged in water. I have soooo much to do today and now I’m extremely behind. Ibuprofen didn’t help. And, I forgot to add sugar to the cookies I was baking so they taste like shit.

I’m a complete and total klutz, and I bruise easily.

I burn myself all the time. My ankles are weak and I roll them about once a week.

@dxs – Best thing to put on it is maximum strength Desitin – the diaper rash cream. No lie. I haven’t changed a diaper in five years but I always have that stuff in the house.

@Seek Thanks for the info but unfortunately, nobody at my place wears diapers. At least I know for next time, which I hope there isn’t.

Nah, I could attend a neo nazi rally dressed as a black Boy George singing “Do you really want to hurt me?”
And still come out unscathed, although a little stressed out perhaps.

I’d look the toughest skinhead right in the eye as I sang “you’re my lover not my rival” from Karma Chameleon…still not a punch thrown.

Totally. I’m surprised I’m still alive.

I was a very accident prone kid, a tomboy type and had a black eye or fat lip in every school picture from 2nd through 7th grade. baseballs in the face, fell and cracked my cheekbone on some cement steps, smashed my mouth into the side of the swimming pool, feel out of a tree house. It’s a wonder I made it to age 18. Yes, I’d say that while I have gone lengthy periods of time I am rather accident prone. The latest was a series of twisting my ankle, badly, twice in an 8 week period.

It has been 3 months now and I just quit wearing an ankle brace every day, but I fear that I may be risking another blowout. lol
I almost got crushed by one of the horses a few months ago when taking off her blanket and a bolt of static electricity zapped her in the face. She spun around and I jumped aside before she slammed me into the stall wall. I have had a lot of horse related injuries over the years including a pin in my left shoulder from a horse wreck once upon a time.

Several near drownings when white water rafting and I also once popped a wheelie on a little dirt bike and plowed into a giant rosebush. That was just delightful. lol

No.

I’ve been blessed with excellent balance and a delicate touch.

I was a skate rat for many years. By some miracle I never severely damaged anything. Same for my bicycle racing career. Both these activities taught me how to fall without injury.

I never cut myself in the kitchen unless I’m using someone’s unfamiliar and or dull knife.

I’m still a risktaker with resilient bones enjoying a charmed life.

Nope. But stupid stuff still happens. Like, I stood up and almost fell over. My foot had gone to sleep and I didn’t realize it. My ankle rolled so hard, I’m surprised I didn’t break it. But I didn’t, and it doesn’t even hurt so I’ll live.

Not really but I have a set of cooking knives that I use occasionally. I always cut myself with them. I bruise easily so I don’t count bruises because a normal person wouldn’t even have a red mark when I have a yellow and purple shiner

No. When I do get hurt, however, it takes ages to heal. I scraped my knee along an asphalt road three weeks ago. Still waiting for the skin to recover.

I am rather prone to minor injuries, minor enough that I don’t always notice them right off. In one shop I worked in, it wasn’t uncommon for my first clue that I was injured to be seeing a couple of brownish-red dots on a part. And since some things burn with near-invisible flames, I actually have managed to set my hands on fire without noticing (at least not until I smelled the burning hair) on more than one occasion.

I am not injury prone.
On top of that I tend to be an extreme stoic, so not only do I only get injured rarely, but notice the injury even less often.
I’ve turned up with my entire thigh black-and-blue and had no idea when it happened. And no it was not alcohol related. I bruise slowly and by the time it colored, I’d forgotten the cause.

I’ve had my share of nasty falls over the years but never considered myself particularly “accident prone.”
