Can constipation cause a headache? (NSFW)

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24886points) March 29th, 2016

I have a mild headache and my guts are plugged up. I had a nice poop and my headache is almost gone. Also I drank some warm water with my regular pill.

If its really severe it could very easily give you a headache, especially if it causes you to get very hot. I’d recommend drinking cold water with headache pills though.

I would chalk it up to a function of dehydration. Lack of fluids can cause both symptoms.

I’ve experienced those symptoms together before; there were times where I had a headache, wondering what might have caused it, then realized I hadn’t… “gone” in a while. So there definitely seems to be a relation there.

Constipation always gives me a headache but then if i take a painkiller for the headache , that just makes the constipation worse .

I’m 62 and I have found a strong relationship between severe headaches and constipation.
Do whatever works for you to eat better and avoid dehydration.
