Does the conflict in this scene from an episode of Star Trek DS9 look familiar to you?

A lot of tv shows, and movies for that matter, tend to draw on conflicts and occurrences that are happening around us. It’s no surprise that DS9 is doing the same thing. They basically take what is happening around us and what is in the news and then fictionalise it for our viewing pleasure. A lot of the news stories make pretty good plot lines too.
To be honest, it doesn’t surprise me that this scene is reminiscent of real life history
