How do you make your coffee at home?

Asked by NerdyKeith (5489points) April 10th, 2016

Do you use:
– A coffee machine, similar to the coffee machines in cafes
– Instant coffee
– French press / Espresso Pot
– A cartage / disc based coffee machine

Personally, I make my coffee with a french press quite a lot. I usually buy ground coffee (as I don’t have a coffee grinder). Before I started making real coffee, all I used to drink is Nescafe instant coffee. But after switching over the real ground coffee? Huge difference.

I used a fancy-schmancy Keurig for two years and then a few months ago decided I was hating the coffee. So now I use a small, no-frills Mr. Coffee. Takes no more time to set up than the Keurig and the coffee tastes just fine.

I use a French Press that was gifted to me by our dear departed @Gailcalled.

Before that I used a combination of a drip pot and a Keurig. The Keurig was mostly for “emergency” coffee.

Now that I use a French Press, I cannot justify sacrificing the flavor of Really Good Coffee by putting it through a Keurig. It simply doesn’t allow the coffee to steep in hot enough water long enough to become Damn Good Coffee.

Keurig at home. 20 oz. Mr. Coffee maker in my office at work. Keurig is set to the largest cup size and the hottest water. I drink 2 sixteen oz. Cups at home and then the contents of the 20 oz. carafe at work.

I buy the cheapest instant coffee I can find. Add hot water and a little bit of milk. Done. All that fancy stuff tastes burned to me.

I have a drip coffee maker with a timer. I grind the beans at about nine p.m., and the timer is set to brew the coffee at 4 a.m. when I get up.

I have a French press for weekend morning breakfast.

I use beans from Graffeo Roasting Company in North Beach.

I’m with @Seek. Also, I’m going to start roasting my own beans. My friend in Jakarta is hooking me up with a farmer in Aceh.

We have a coffee machine. My husband loves coffee so I bought him one.

Standard drip maker

Should have included that I grind my beans just before brewing.

I like to think that I am frugal, but perhaps I am cheap. I buy 8-o’clock coffee, grind a half cup of beans to a powder in a $15 grinder and immediately brew it in a $20 drip coffee pot.

I had a drip coffee maker for years. Then it died.

Replaced it with a Kuerig for a few years. Then it died.

Now I have the new Nespresso machine that makes espresso and regular European-style coffee and steams milk.
The one from the ad with Danny Divito and George Clooney

I wuv it so much.

@Bill1939 – I love Eight O’Clock Coffee. Might just be because it was my dad’s brand, so that’s what I think of when I think of coffee. _

My green beans from Aceh are going to be a fraction of the price of what regular coffee costs here. It might sound posh but it is super frugal.

That’s awesome, @cazzie. I would love to try home-roasting sometime.

I’m going to be selling small amounts here to help my friends fundraising. She is trying to set up a community services centre in her area of Jakarta. Every little bit helps.

I use a plain old drip coffeemaker fueled by Starbucks dark roast beans. Delicious! I like French Press coffee, but it is not hot enough for me.

Recently, in Tampa, I had Cuban coffee (Cafe Bustelo) made in an Italian espresso maker that was delicious.

I have one of these, but I don’t use it much. It was a purchase during more affluent times. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Villeroy-Boch-Elements-Coffee-Espresso/dp/B000GXC1PS

@marinelife: ”I don’t understand _but it’s not hot enough for me.” It’s for that specific reason that I like French press coffee. You can take boiling water and let it brew for 3 minutes or 5 or 10 and then drink it. It’s really, really hot still at that point, probably hotter than the regular coffee maker.

Ah, Bustelo. The reason meth never took off in Miami.
