OMG! Who do we know in Japan?

Asked by Here2_4 (7152points) April 15th, 2016

I know I have seen jellies mention family/friends in Japan.
Who knows someone in Japan?
Do we have any jellies living or visiting in Japan?
The quakes are BAD
My heart goes out to them.
Anybody else?

*whom

I lived on Kyushu in Fukuoka city for 3 years. It’s just north of Kumamoto. I still have many friends there.

You can’t imagine—I went on a business trip the year after (1996) the Kobe earthquake, there were whole areas of the city that were flattened. They were still cleaning up a year after the earthquake. The land there is constantly moving. We would walk from our Hotel to where we doing business about one kilometer or over a half mile, the sidewalks in someplaces were impassable.

@Hawaii_Jake , you are in my heart. Let us know what you find out. The news footage I have seen is so frightening. You must be on pins and needles.

That’s what really upsets me. I seems to be getting more active not less.

I don’t have any particular friend in Japan, but I know this one man from an interpretation job some months ago. I was his interpreter for one day as he travel to my city on a business trip. He is a nice man and we still chat on Facebook sometimes. I don’t know if he was in Kyuushuu that day, but he has been traveling a lot lately and it’s hard to keep track of his location. I forgot to check on him. Will do now.

Just checked. He was active on Facebook an hour ago. Hope he’s ok.

Japan earthquakes: Dozens killed, region ‘swaying every hour’

You were right, @Here2_4. Unlike Western media, the Japanese press seems to have downplayed the extent of the disaster.

I lived in Yokohama, southwest of Tokyo and was there during the Kobe quake. I felt it and was disoriented a bit by the motion. By the time I turned on the TV they were showing pictures of Kobe about 250 miles away. Awful.
