Do you have the phone number for the latest of recalled food items?

Asked by flo (13313points) April 21st, 2016

If your granparent let’s say, or whoever, can’t go online, to CDC etc., if they have to use the phone, do you all have the 24 hrs toll free phone number meant just for that purpose? That is, one that says “Press….for latest recalled food items” and actaully gives you the item/s.

There isn’t one. Besides, there are various recalls on a daily basis.

You can sign up for email alerts.

FDA food recalls are only available on Internet Access for FDA.

Okay do you happen to know which countiry countries have this option in addition to having it online?
@zenvelo If you see the detail of the OP it’s is for people who don’t know how to use digital anything, but need the info ASAP.

None that I know of; the FDA would be the only one I trust for food or drugs made in USA. You understand that there maybe hundreds and hundreds of items.
Are your “grandparents” going to hold on the line for 20 or 30 minutes?

flo's avatar

@Tropical_Willie It’s not my grandparents. And it doesn’t just apply to grandparents.
Why would it be 20 or 30 minutes and where is this happening? All it takes is a minute or 2 or 3 to get to the button to press for the latest 2 recalled items in whatever specific area.

The posted list on the internet is all inclusive for the entire USA; all meats, canned goods, OTC drugs, pasta…. It is a generalized list not by area or region; or what have been found in the last two days. “Last two items” is not helpful if they have a bottle of something that was number 15 on the list they will never know.

But that’s an unhelpful way of listing it, to state the obvious.

…so even people who can go on the internet aren’t helped.

Yep blame the inter-web for having long lists to read, to keep you safe.

You have to read all the items. Try GOOGLE for latest food recalls.

zenvelo's avatar

@flo, if they read the newspaper every day, they will learn about the latest recall.

Most recalls are voluntary. There is no central cealringhouse of recalls, although the government tries to publicize as many as they can.

But do you expect someone to call a hotline everyday?. That would grow old rather quickly. Grocery stores that carry a recalled product are pretty good about posting a notice.

@Tropical_Willie No excuses. And this is not about the entire web, it’s one site. How did you get the entire web in this?

There is no reason to have to read long list. Look at the business websites or customer service on the phone. If they can be efficient, how can the government site that deals with potentially life and death, be so user unfriendly?

In what order is it the list in your link listed?

@zenvelo I don’t remember seeing recalled items segment in a newspaper besides by the time they read the paper it may be too late. It’s not necessarily every day, but even if it is, it shouldn’t be a problem in my opinion.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@flo there were over 625 food recalls in 2015.

If the list stands at 600 items to be read by whom? for your grandparent to listen to; with what for a cut-off date, or region and can they (your grandparents) comprehend all this?

flo's avatar

@Tropical_Willie So, I guess you designed the site? Is that what you’re declaring without meaning to?

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@flo DUH ! ! ! !
Not what I said.
Teach them to use a F%^King computer.

flo's avatar

@Tropical_Willie Are you funny or what. You used the computer in search of the info, and it didn’t provide you with it, so…. Again, without meaning to…
