Someone told me to read a book. I can’t remember the name. But it sounded like hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. It isn’t but it had a title like that. Like it was a manual, or an explanation book. It’s popular I know that! I’ve checked the best seller lists. I’m stumped!

How to improve your short term memory for Dummies? lol
I like The Time Traveller’s Guide to the Fourteenth Century.
Honestly, that’s really not enough information to go on. What was the book about? Is it a new book or a classic? What was the genre?
If you said you’d know it if you saw it, does that mean you’d recognise the cover? or just the title?
Why not just ask the person who told you to read this book?
Hm…sounds like a manual – A Short History of Tractors in Ukranian ?
I’m just taking a wild flying leap here, but is it: “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” ?
How about Stephen Hawkings “A Brief History of Time”
Thanks for all the replies! I would know the title! I think it is a novel. The person who suggested it was on a live video stream months ago. They were part of a canadian snoball fighting championship. It is not any of those so far, but zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance has the right ring to it, if you get my drift.
Please let me know if you think of anything! :(
I think it is a classic but newish.
So… you don’t know the genre except that it’s fiction, you don’t know the author, you don’t know when it was released, and you don’t know who recommended it, but you know that it isn’t H2G2 or Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.
And it’s either recent or released 20+ years ago or both…?
If we use a low estimate of 100,000 new English-language fiction novels published each year, I’d say you need to narrow it down a bit or try to track down your source.
Or go to Amazon’s pages for those two titles and look at the other recommended selections at the bottom.
Or join a readers’ website, look at the libraries of people who have both of those books and have rated them highly, and see what else they read.
Which would be helpful if she knew she was looking for comedic science fiction or whatever genre Zen… is. But she’s just looking for a book with a title “along those lines”.
I agree, it’s not much to go on. Especially since associations of that sort can be very subjective and not at all apparent to someone else.
Someone suggested you read a book but didn’t give you the title or you can’t remember the title? I’m confused.
I have an idea. Tell us what kind of books you like reading and we will recommend some titles. One of them might be the book you are after but it might not. Either way you will have some cool books to try that are based on your taste.
I do believe that a lot of the readers of Fluther are on this thread and I know these people have read some fine books
