If I get strip searched can I request to have someone from the opposite gender perform it?

I’m uncomfortable being searched by a man. Could I request that a woman search me.

It’s likely to land you the “special” attention doled on suspected perverts.

Nope. Cavity searches are done by the gender of the suspect.

I don’t believe getting “comfortable” is of the upmost importance when a strip search is concerned.
So, you may ask, but(t), no.

No. In fact, if Canadian law is like US law then LEOs aren’t actually allowed to strip/cavity search someone of the opposite sex. They must request an officer of the same sex to perform the search.

@RedDeerGuy1 Unless you have already been cavity searched, how do you know you are uncomfortable being searched by a man? And are you sure it was the search “by a man” or the search itself?

@RedDeerGuy1, why do you feel you may be subjected to such a search? Is there some reason this might happen or is it more of a hypothetical question. As has been explained, you wouldn’t be able to ask for a person of the opposite sex to search you. That would not happen.
