CNN reporting that Ted Cruz dropped out of race, what are your thoughts?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24987points) May 3rd, 2016

Looks like it is going to be Clinton/Sanders vs. Trump. Are you moving to Canada?

Well I say that’s good. One less thang.

Gawd, he actually used the phrase “with a heavy heart” in his concession speech. If I were Texican, Ah’d git out mah sixgun and shoot that slimy son of a coot, jess fer thet.

It was bound to happen. Not surprised at all.

There is no good alternative. It’s a shame that decent people…............oh well. We’ll have to just vote our conscience in November.

Pretty interesting that Trump is going to be the nominee given how unlikely it seemed when he first announced his candidacy.

I loathe Cruz, though, so I’m glad to see him gone. But Trump isn’t really any better. And Hillary is just Obama 2.0

Overall this is going to be a disappointing election.

Anyone that claims they are moving to Canada needs to not talk about it and just do it.

Otherwise it’s just making a smug, self righteous statement.

Also, if you move to Canuckistan you can no longer vote. You are surrendering your agency.

Also also, Why Canada? you lazy fucks.

^^Is Cruz moving back to Canada? Do the Canadians know about this?

I’m moving to Canada.

Well, the folks on Cape Breton Island are ready.

Of late, Cruz’s campaign has been a lost cause, so no surprise here for his saying “adios.”

We can now discount the bottom-left scenario in this meme.

DoNotKnowMuch's avatar

Now we just need Clinton to drop out.

Sobering news for all of those Republicans formerly praying that Palin was a fluke.

@Espiritus_Corvus We’re hoping to have the wall in place before that can happen.

You know it’s going to be Hillary vs. Trump. Sanders is lagging behind and many regard him as too far to the left. Trump started out as a joke but I think the Repubs have no choice but stick with him now. I never thought Trump would make it this far. He talks crazy and he’s not diplomatic at all.

I heard something about Cruz’s dad being with the guy who killed Kennedy.

There have been some interesting dymanics going in this election cycle. Each election Trump has been getting stronger and stronger. Cruz has been getting weaker and weaker. On the Democratic side similar dynamics are in play. Hillary keeps getting weaker while Sanders is getting stronger. I doubt there is enough time left for Sanders to make much more than noise but he is hurting Hillary.

If these dynamics continue, Trump is in a good position to win. He keeps gaining support while Hillary keeps losing support. Ain’t it great that we live in interesting times.

ibstubro's avatar

I agree with @Jaxk that Trump is in a good position to be the next President of the United States.

jca's avatar

If it’s down to Trump vs. Hill then they are both in a good position to be the next President of the United States.

I’ll put my money on Hill winning.

Some Republicans view Hillary are more conservative than Trump.

I wouldn’t be lazy in Canada. I’d be hiking, kayaking, snow shoeing and snowboarding. I’d be in heaven!

Darth_Algar's avatar

Tapping Carly Fiorina as his VP pick really boosted Cruz’s campaign didn’t it.

Darth_Algar's avatar

@Jaxk “If these dynamics continue, Trump is in a good position to win. He keeps gaining support while Hillary keeps losing support.

Except that the general election is an entirely different beast than the primaries.

SavoirFaire's avatar

@Darth_Algar Cruz picked Fiorina for her experience. He needed someone who would be able to help him lay off his entire campaign staff.

Buttonstc's avatar

Well, if it’s choosing between Trump and Cruz, I’d still rather deal with a bungling idiot than a maniacal would-be despot who deems himself “the anointed one” So, since it was down to those two, I’m fine with it. I certainly wouldn’t be fine with President Trump, but let’s cross one bridge at a time.

Presumably Kasich will be exiting soon.

SavoirFaire's avatar

Hey, something just occurred to me. What if Cruz dropped out so he could go back to being the Zodiac Killer? Maybe Trump will be his first target. ~

Jaxk's avatar

@Darth_Algar – Maybe but I’d rather go into the general gaining ground than losing it. Momentum works in both the primaries and the general.

Cruiser's avatar

@Darth_Algar If you have have been following the race is you will have seen anyone who has attempted to attack Trump was decimated and eviscerated by Donald and he is now licking his chops to begin his assault on Hillary and it won’t be pretty. And with ammo like this bombshell about Trump there is no stopping him.

Buttonstc's avatar

@Cruiser

Interesting.

I remember that a while back, there was a question (forgot who asked it) about whether we thought Trump was a racist.

I said then and still believe now that he is far more a xenophobe and a CLASSIST rather than specifically a racist.

If he were racist, it’s highly doubtful he would have had as many black people on his Apprentice show (and probably none.)

He’s fine interacting with people whom he sees as similar to him, on his level, in accomplishment or education. So, I don’t find her statements that surprising in the least. She was describing her personal experience and I believe she was being genuine.

By contrast, I find someone like O’Reilly a lot more tending toward stereotyping and racist by describing “those blacks with tattoos on their foreheads”

Good grief. I’ve known and met a lot of black people in my life and have yet to encounter one with a forehead tattoo. I mean, he can’t even get his stereotypes right.

Anyhow, for all his crappy comments about all kinds of people, Trump does have one or two redeeming qualities. Doesn’t mean I’d vote for him to run the country, but nobody is 100% bad, not even him.

Good riddance to him for now be very afraid, we haven’t seen nor heard the last of Lucifer.

JLeslie's avatar

@Pachy Which one is Lucifer? Trump or Cruz?

ragingloli's avatar

Stop insulting Lucifer. He is the good guy, fighting against a celestial tyrant.

Jaxk's avatar

Apparently, Kasic will be dropping out this afternoon as well. The race is essentially over.

rojo's avatar

When do you think Trump will drop out now that he has all but won the nomination?

rojo's avatar

From Samantha Bee:

“Shouldn’t #TedCruz have been forced to carry his unviable campaign to term?”
